One of the finest HD remasters ever developed finally made its way to the PlayStation 3 with Biohazard HD Remaster.
Also known as Resident Evil HD Remaster in most territories, this upgraded version of the GameCube original comes packed with all the bells and whistles we'd expect from a proper HD conversion. The differences between this game and the original remake are night and day, not to mention the PlayStation One original. If you need a way to play one of the best survival horror games ever made with a modern setup, Biohazard HD Remaster won't disappoint.
Horror Remastered
The Original Resident Evil, released for the original PlayStation console, redefined (and essentially created) the survival horror genre as we know it. Still, despite its well-deserved critical acclaim, some players might feel the game's visuals need to be updated by modern standards.
That's why fans loved Resident Evil on GameCube: not only did the game deliver much more defined visuals, but it also came with an updated translation and better voice acting to match. What I mean is this version of Resident Evil quickly bested its predecessor in every way, becoming the de facto way to play the first game in Capcom's legendary series.
PS3-Quality Visuals
Even for a GameCube title, Biohazard HD Remaster looks great on PS3. The character models look fantastic thanks to the higher resolution that Sony's console allows, finally delivering what the GameCube original tried to achieve back in 2002.
Additionally, the pre-rendered backgrounds now look flashier than ever thanks to the console's 1080p output. The original Resident Evil has never looked as good as it does in Biohazard HD Remaster, and that's something that series' fans will be quick to notice. From a technical standpoint, I'd say that this game might even have the edge over what we saw with the port of Resident Evil 4.
Made for PlayStation
One common complaint that many players had with the original Resident Evil remake is that the game was made with the GameCube in mind. That's all good and all, except that the controller in that console was… questionable, to say the least.
Now, Biohazard HD Remaster on the PS3 features a control scheme that more closely resembles the one from the original Resident Evil title. Long-time fans of both the series and Sony's DualShock controller can rest easy in that their muscle memory will kick in as soon as they grab the controller.
It would have been great to see some form of upgrade to the game's overall tank controls, but it's understandable why Capcom decided to keep the experience as true to the original as possible.
Biohazard HD Remaster is the definitive way to play one of the greatest survival horror games ever made, and every player should give this version of the classic a chance.
