BloodRayne Betrayal: Fresh Bites

Holy crap does BloodRayne Betrayal: Fresh Bites look amazing! Brought to us by WayForward Games who turn pretty much anything 2D into gold, this is one of the best looking 2D games to be released in 2021. It is a remaster of a game that was released 10 years ago, but I think calling what they have done here just a remaster is doing it a huge disservice. Today we are taking a closer look at this game and showing why it is a game that you need to be very excited about.

The Sins Of The Father

The BloodRayne series is known for its storytelling and BloodRayne Betrayal: Fresh Bites is no different. Once again, we play as Rayne, the badass female vampire. She has been tasked with leading a team of soldiers to this giant castle that is underground to put a stop to the evil forces of her father, Kagan.

A New Generation

While the story shares many similarities with the original game, it is far from just the same adventure that you played through a decade ago! The new visuals that this game has are just stunning, absolutely stunning. I would make the argument that no one does better 2D visuals than WayForward and I would use this game to prove my argument. The art in this game is just stunning, the design of the various creatures, the background, the atmospheric effects, and the animation are just incredible.

Delivered With Professionalism

As well as new visuals, BloodRayne Betrayal: Fresh Bites boasts some brand-new voice acting with new dialogue recorded for this new version of the game. They have Laura Baily as Rayne and Troy Baker as Kagan, two of the biggest names in the world of voice acting that really do help bring home the story.

Lightning Like Quick

The gameplay seems very similar to what the original offered, but just a bit tightened up and refined. You control Rayne as you hack, slash and jump your way through many different chapters. You have a ton of enemies that you need to take down and you can do this with melee attacks with your arm blades or with a handgun. You can get upgrades as you progress and of course, chomping down on an enemy for some blood is greatly encouraged in BloodRayne Betrayal: Fresh Bites.

The game is very fast-paced and that is where a huge part of the fun lays. They have improved the difficulty options as the game was deemed unfairly hard by many people when it was first released back in 2011. They have a newly balanced difficulty option that tones things down a bit and is more for people that want to have fun. However, they do also have a bone crushing difficulty for those that want it.

Pros:

Cons:

• There perhaps could be a bit more diversity to the combat
• That difficulty may still be a tad too much for some people
