Dora the Explorer: Super Spies
If you ask me Dora the Explorer: Super Spies is pretty much a direct sequel to Search for Pirate Pigs Treasure. It to me feels like it uses the same game engine and as that was actually a pretty fun platformer, I think that is not a bad thing at all. Younger gamers who also really like Dora the Explorer are in for a good time with this game.
Spies In Action
The story that the game tells is pretty fun and from what I understand this is actually based on a specific episode of the TV show so that is pretty cool. Dora the Explorer: Super Spies tells its story via text and these rather high-quality images that use the game graphics, but they also look like they could be stills from the TV show. Everything is nice and bright and while it does not look notably better than its predecessor, I still think it is a decent enough looking game. The game moves at a decent framerate too which actually helps with the gameplay as well as the overall presentation
Run, Jump, Swing and More!
The game starts you off playing as Dora and you will need to navigate each level looking for stuff, getting past enemies and solving simple puzzles. For a children’s game I do feel that they have managed to walk the fine line of giving kids plenty to do, but not at the expense of it becoming too hard or cryptic for them to figure out. Playing as Dora is great, but she is made even greater by the help of her backpack which has all her spy gear in it. My personal favorite being the X-Ray specs which have a cool feature when you use them.
Dora the Explorer: Super Spies is like Search for Pirate Pigs Treasure in that the game also allows you to take control of Boots. Boots controls a bit slicker than Dora and he has more of a learning curve than she does, but he is still fun to use and being able to move faster, jump higher and use vines is something kids will have a great deal of fun with.
I think that as far as games for children go that Dora the Explorer: Super Spies is a pretty decent game. It is a kid’s game first and foremost and in that regard, it does succeed. It may not do a lot more than the previous game did, but I am sure kids will still have a really fun time. That rings especially true if they have seen and enjoyed the episode of the Dora TV show that this game is actually based on.
