Employee of the Month, developed by Projekt Skeleton, is a survival horror simulation game that puts you in the shoes of a retail worker striving to become the employee of the month. The game is designed to provide players with an immersive experience of the retail industry, where they can learn about the different tasks, responsibilities, and challenges that come with working in a retail environment. But don’t think that this is going to be all it is, as there is much more to this than what initially meets the eye. Keeps your wits about you as this very well may take a spooky turn quite quickly. If you’re looking for a game that fits the spooky retro vibe, you are in the right place. Let’s get into it.

Gameplay

One of the things that I appreciated about the game was its attention to detail. The game provides players with a realistic portrayal of the retail industry, from the mundane tasks such as restocking shelves to the more challenging tasks like dealing with “difficult customers”. (That difficult customers joke will make sense when you play it.) The game also provides players with an opportunity to interact with other employees and managers, giving them a glimpse into the hierarchy and dynamics of a typical retail workplace. At least, that is what the game would first have you believe. Certainly, that’s a big aspect to it, but you also have to wonder what else is going on here as the situation changes drastically and you are thrown into a scary world you barely understand. There are striking similarities to games like The Closing Shift and Bloodwash, and will scratch the itch of gamers who love the vibe those titles have.

The game's user interface is straightforward and easy to navigate, making it accessible to players of all levels of gaming experience. I found it incredibly easy to understand, with a few things here and there which required me to think more straightforward and to stop overcomplicating. You don’t actually have to mop, just throw the mop on the water and that does it.

Visuals

The graphics are simple but effective, and the sound design helps to create an immersive experience. The atmosphere is one of the most impressive parts of this game, as it demonstrates so clearly that things don’t have to be hyper realistic to scare the pants off of you. I also found the game's storyline engaging, as players progress through different levels and strive to achieve the ultimate goal of becoming not just surviving the horrors that await, but becoming the coveted employee of the month.

Game Modes

Overall, this game has a lot to offer the discerning player. If you are looking for a game that has great replay value thanks to multiple endings and a ton of different game modes to alter the state of play and challenge you further, you have hit the jackpot here. I am a huge fan of games that take their time to show you why they are fun, and this one takes itself seriously as a spooky game with a lot to see. I respect the hell out of that.
