Epic Chef is almost upon us, with its official release date set for November 11th, 2021, developers Inifnigon and publisher Team 17, are ready to unleash this cooking title to the world. The game will be available on Windows, Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4, and Xbox One, and will be a story-driven adventure game that mixes cooking elements with simulation.
A Tale of Food & Fun
Since its gameplay demonstration at Future Game Show in 2020, Epic Chef had a quirky feeling to it. It felt as if we were seeing something as special as Stardew Valley, Overcooked 2, or My Time At Portia. Epic Chef oozes that charming, quirky, heartfelt feeling of indie games that were well-received by fans. The title has the premise of not taking itself too seriously, and providing uncompromised fun while delivering hours of entertainment.
Jumping into Epic Chef feels like throwing yourself into an animated cartoon, the sound effects, animations, and details all point to a very family-friendly, or beginner-friendly title. The bobble-head like characters constantly bring joy to the title, but at various moments the game transforms the simplest of cooking tasks, or stories, into artistic and absurd moments that just add to the comical experience.
Cooks Tells Stories Through Cuisine
Epic Chef has boldly stated that its comical nature has been inspired by Mister Ajikko, and Sir Terry Pratchett and its gameplay and story clearly convey those traits. The story hasn’t been fully disclosed, but as it stands this game will revolve on a faraway island filled with the greatest chefs in the world battling for honor and titles. The dialogues and conversations are what players can expect to set this game apart from the rest of cooking games, because gameplay-wise it is a fusion of different mechanics, and genres we have seen countless times.
Conclusion
Nonetheless, the open-world aspect of exploration of Ambrosia, is rewarding, as we can clearly see the attention to detail given to each part of town. Players are also tasked with not only cooking the best dishes but cultivating and growing their own ingredients.
The ultimate point of the game is to create over a thousand delicious dishes that can be experimented with and altered to become the best chef on the island. Players have to prove themselves in epic culinary competitions, where the quality of ingredients, uniqueness of flavor, originality, and other traits are judged. Replayability is ensured because no two judges, judge dishes in the same way, so there is no one recipe fits all in Epic Chef.
It is time to get your serving of cooking game come November 11th, if you are looking for a single-player experience to scratch that culinary itch Epic Chef is right around the corner. The game shows great promise and is guaranteed to please fans of Overcooked II, and Cook, Serve Delicious 3.
