Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest

Regarded as one of the best entries from the series, and one of the most iconic games of the Nintendo 3DS generation Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest is a must-play title. Developed by Intelligent Systems, and published by Nintendo the game was released in 2015, and instantly became an industry success commercially, and critically.

Fates Divided

Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest is the first entry from the Fire Emblem Fates saga, its counterpart is the Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright game, which happens in the same period in time but tells the story from a different perspective. For the full picture, it is highly recommended that you play the Fire Emblem Fates: Revelation which has both stories and an additional third one.

As the first entry of the series, this title tells the story of Corrin joining the Kingdom of Nohr. As his restlessness directs him towards knowledge, about King Garon’s plans. The story goes on to test Corrin’s resilience and loyalty as pieces of the mystery surrounding the Royal Families start to unfold. The full story is one of the best-written of the franchise, even if the expectation for Fire Emblem is high, here it really shines, and serious ethical, and moral questions are presented to the players.

Conquering New Grounds

Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest is an amazing game all around. From the awe-inspiring graphics to the superbly written script and dialogue, all the way to sound design and actual gameplay. In this version, we get new weapons, new classes, a customizable base, new bonuses, and weapon effects. The game provides a lot of content to explore, and it is able to differentiate itself even from its brother Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright, through exclusive content and gameplay options. Combat will feel enhanced, yet familiar for veterans, and while it might feel a little overwhelming for newcomers, players can quickly grasp it.

This is one of the rare cases where gameplay seems actually less important than the story itself. It doesn’t mean the gameplay is boring or bad, on the contrary, it is a masterpiece all around. However, Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest’s story and the script will leave players grasping at the edge of their seats, contemplating and reflecting on every single choice they have to live with till the end of a run. It also creates compelling supporting characters, that you’ll quickly get attached to and deeply care about their well-being and fates, even if the game doesn’t leave breathing room for you to process all occurrences.

Conclusion

One of the best Nintendo 3DS ever developed, and one of the greatest titles from the franchise Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest is a must-play for fans of the series, or the genre. A masterpiece all around, it is hard to find actual implications, aside from some creative choices. The gameplay complements the artwork that is the script and character development.
