As I am writing this From Madness with Love review, I am actually a bit early to the party, but I have spent a lot of time with the demo and wanted to share my thoughts on it with you while it was all fresh in my mind. Look, you know this game has to be good as I have already committed to getting the full version! My hope today is that I can sway a few more of you fine folks today to try and give this boys dating sim a try as it is freaking hilarious, dark, and cute all at the same time!
What Happened To The School?
From Madness with Love is a game that has a narrative that is all over the place. It can be funny, it can be cute, and it can even have horror and rather disturbing themes as well. However, the setup for this high school romance drama dating sim lets you know right away what kind of game you are in for! We play as a new transfer student which is nothing unusual right? However, the reason we have come to this new school is because our old one was bombed by terrorists!
Whoa, Your Tone!
What I have enjoyed so far about From Madness with Love is the whole wacky tone of the game. I can hand on heart say that I have never played a dating sim that has a tone that is as much all over the place as this one here is. It can make you smile one moment, make you confused the next (I am looking at you Saeki!) and also make you wince and feel uncomfortable and disturbed.
Guys Just Wanna Have Fun!
A little Cyndi Lauper reference for you guys there. Anyway, as I said, we play as the new transfer student, and From Madness with Love has us trying to get with four different guys. We have Saeki whom we knew from our old school, he likes video games, takes nonsense, and is the typical “guy” of the group. We also have, Aorta who is the like honor student of the bunch. We then have my favorite, Tamura who dabbles with the occult and who has a real love for eating and sleeping. Then we have Arakawa who is the teacher, yep the teacher who happens to enjoy bodybuilding and he may have a darker side to him too. You need to try and get to know the guys better like a typical dating sim which is easier said than done!
Pixelated Madness!
One of the big selling points of From Madness with Love has to be the visuals. No doubt, you have already seen a million lewd games that use pixel art, however, this one truly does stand out. This is some of the highest quality pixel art you will see. The portraits here kind of remind me of when the Game Boy Color would do full screen cutscenes if that makes sense? Some of the stuff you see here can be weird and even disturbing, not to mention the XXX stuff! It makes for a very interesting looking game and I love how the four love interests each have their own unique style and vibe.
Look, From Madness with Love has a pretty substantial demo that you can check out which will let you know if this is a game that is for you so you have nothing at all to lose by trying this out. I have had a blast with what I have played so far and I am sure that I will end up trying to find every single outcome that this dating sim has to offer. It is one of the more interesting and quirky dating sims that I have ever had the pleasure to play and I feel my high score is completely justified!
Pros:
- Each of the four guys is unique
- I love the art style of this game
- No other dating sim is as all over the place as this one is
- This is the kind of game that you will never forget
Cons:
- It is a guys only dating sim game
- Some of the stuff may be a tad too disturbing and weird for some people
