Are you ready to get angry? Then this is the game for you. This could be the single worst game to have ever cursed the earth. Usually my reviews are polite and honest; I look for the good in games without being afraid to shy away from mentioning what the developers could have done better. In this instance, I will be brutally and unapologetically honest for the sake of all those that this title has offended. Get ready for Fur Fun by Dalas.

Gameplay

Let’s start off with the gameplay, if you can even call it that. It goes without saying that this title is an absolute rip off of Rares Banjo-Kazooie. The character art style, animations and abilities are frightneningly reminiscient of a game Dalas didn’t make. The gameplay is boring and repetitive with very little in the way of individual or creative thought. You run around as a pink cat with a bird on your head and they help you traverse the very small world.

They added a few vehicles to move around in but they do not save the game in any way. The controls are terrible and the physics worse so, constant ragdoll physics plague your gameplay every time you stub your toe or an enemy walks near you.

Development

This game was in developmental hell for ages as right from the get go it was consistently, and accurately, accused of being Yooka-Laylee kickstarter submissions rip off. The game was removed from Steam in 2018 due to the constant barrage of hate that the developer and the game itself received. Originally created by Doky, Dalas took credit for everything in the game until it became too much and he then ditched the project and blamed the failure on Doky. Fur Fun crashes constantly, it’s full of glitches, and the script is filled with dirty jokes, innuendos and disgusting comments that disparage the differently abled.

Controversy

I don’t even know where to start. Both Dalas and this game are brazen. Let me list off some of the nonsense surrounding this title:

  • Textures from other games were stolen and put into this one. Elements from Super Mario and Minecraft were directly taken and used without permission.

  • The Meerkat character is a pixel for pixel a copy of Timon from the Lion King.

  • The game stole music from Banjo-Kazooie, Dalas tried to lie to everyone and tell them that the music’s original composer, Grant Kirkhope, allowed for them to be included but that was refuted by the Grant. Dalas then verbally, and publically, attacked them over Twitter. They didn’t even change the file names so we know that they were stolen.

  • Dalas was rude to everyone who criticized the games and would frequently remove reviews he didn’t agree with. And all that isn’t even close to everything.

The Takeaway

The saddest part of all this is that despite it all, the game could have been good if it hadn’t been picked up by a sociopath and instead tried to strike out as its own thing. If it had changed some of the mechanics and designs there’s nothing to say it couldn’t have been successful in its own right.

Had it received the appropriate, if not huge, amount of necessary work to make it unique, whoever took it on could have done something great.

5

Download this game. I’m serious; it’s hilarious in how outrageous and shameless it is. You will be blown away by what Dalas tried to pull over on the gaming community. He claims it was a social experiment so treat it as such and have a look for yourself.

Pros

  • Once had potential to be a unique and interesting game
  • Good music, even though the music’s actual creators both distanced themselves from the project.

Cons

  • Too many to list
