Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal is the third game in the Ratchet & Clank series, a third-person action franchise developed by Insomniac Games. In every Ratchet & Clank game, players embark on an interplanetary adventure full of explosive action and mayhem. Playing as both the furry Lombax named Ratchet and his adorable metallic buddy Clank, you'll blast your way through colorful alien worlds on a quest to save the universe. Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal maintains the expected franchise formula but makes some worthwhile addition and improvements as well. With dozens of upgradeable weapons and gadgets to find and use, there's no shortage of chaotic fun in Ratchet & Clank 3.
Main Game Features
- Lengthy single-player adventure
- 30 unique weapons and gadgets
- Online and local competitive multiplayer
Up Your Arsenal continues the story of Ratchet and Clank, who now, after saving the world multiple times, enjoy a bit of rest and relaxation. This small vacation is cut short when the pair learn that their homeworld is under attack by a powerful invading force. Led by the mysterious but dangerous Dr. Nefarious, little is known about the attackers or their motivation. Unsatisfied and eager to protect their home planet, Ratchet and Clank adventure across the galaxy to uncover the truth behind Nefarious' plan. This journey takes them to a slew of colorful new planets, meeting both new and familiar characters. Thanks to its consistently humorous and intriguing plot, Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal is one of the strongest narratives in the entire franchise.
Regardless of how interesting the story is, it's the chaotic gameplay that often brings gamers to the Ratchet & Clank franchise. Up Your Arsenal continues the trend of highlighting action over platforming by expanding the list of available weapons and gadgets, offering some exceptionally cool offensive tools. No matter what the problem is, blowing things up is usually the answer, and Up Your Arsenal gives you plenty of exciting ways to start the mayhem. Each weapon you find can also be powered-up eight times through simply by using it, with five additional upgrades that add even more firepower. While most of the game is played as Ratchet, there are a few puzzle-based sequences where you also play as Clank. These, along with other unique sequences we won't spoil, help keep the action from growing repetitive.
In addition to the main single-player campaign, Up Your Arsenal also includes both online and local competitive multiplayer modes. Multiplayer supports up to four players on one system, with up to eight players using the online options. You can battle against your friends in both team-based and free-for-all modes, including Capture the Flag, Deathmatch, and Siege. There are ten unique levels to host your firefights, each with a unique layout and weapon spawns.
Weapons include the Lava Gun, Gravity Bomb, Minirocket Tube, and several other fan-favorites. The competitive multiplayer is tons of fun and provides plenty of hours of replayability, plus a way to test which of your friends is the best Ratchet & Clank player!
The Ratchet & Clank franchise rarely disappoints, and Up Your Arsenal is no different. The game is expertly crafted, with great level design, fun-to-use weapons, and an addictive upgrade system. Puzzle and platforming sections help shake up the experience, although the hectic combat is plenty enjoyable on its own. Extra challenge modes, competitive multiplayer, and a host of other unlockables ensure that you'll keep coming back to Ratchet & Clank 3 over and over, keeping your trigger finger primed and ready. Just like the rest of the Ratchet & Clank franchise, Up Your Arsenal is one of the best action experiences ever released on the PlayStation 2.
