Supraland is a first-person adventure/puzzle game, where players take on the role of a nameless toy villager inside the fantasy world of a child's sandbox. Split between the Red Kingdom and the Blue Kingdom, you must explore the sandbox, collecting coins and upgrading your abilities. The game takes a lot of inspiration from classic adventure games like The Legend Of Zelda and Super Metroid, requiring players to collect new items and abilities to uncover previously inaccessible areas. Combined with some satisfying and fun puzzles, Supraland provides an upbeat and colorful adventure that's tons of fun!

Main Game Features

  • First-person exploration and combat
  • Dozens of upgrades to find
  • Physics-based and logic puzzles to solve

Supraland follows suit with other classic games and takes a simplistic approach to its story. In the game, you play as a nameless villager living in the Red Kingdom. One day, the village's water runs out, prompting some appropriate panic. At the request of the king, you venture into the sewers to discover the problem. During this brief journey below, you learn that the opposing Blue Kingdom is sabotaging your pipes, forcing you to return home and report the news. Disgusted by this treacherous act, you journey out into the desert beyond the village gates in an attempt to hold the Blue king accountable. As you explore the sandbox, you'll run into some other characters and exchange pleasantries, but for the most part, Supraland's plot is as straightforward as they come.

By borrowing recognizable elements from tons of different game genres, Supraland produces a surprisingly original gameplay experience. As you make your way to the Blue king's court, you'll encounter various obstacles that block your path. Whether it's an out-of-reach button, an exceptionally long jump, or dangerous enemies, you'll have to upgrade your character to overcome each challenge. After the tutorial at the beginning of the game, you're essentially free to explore any area you can reach, collecting coins as you investigate various locations.

Coins can be cashed in back at your village for various upgrade tokens. Some tokens give you added health or increased sword damage, while others grant you entirely new abilities. Through the coin exchange shop, you'll gain the ability to double and triple-jump, spawn a handy cube, and more. While there's a decent number of enemies to slay with your weapons, you'll encounter far more puzzles and platforming challenges to surpass. Lots of puzzles involve your cube-spawning power, forcing you to think outside of the box.

Supraland is a great combination of classic gaming elements, straightforward storytelling, and player freedom. The sandbox setting is a perfect place for inventive and original puzzles, which never feel too challenging or frustrating. Collecting coins and upgrading your powers is consistently fun and gives you plenty of motivation to keep going. The exploratory nature of the game gives players plenty of room to experiment and have fun, hopping around the level as they search for hidden chests and goodies.

While the combat leaves a bit to be desired, Supraland has enough charm to carry the experience. If you're a fan of first-person puzzle games like Portal or The Witness and also appreciate a whimsical tone, you'll most likely enjoy Supraland.
