I know that Gamedec sounds like it is some kind of program or peripheral, but this is actually a really cool cyberpunk style RPG that takes a lot of inspiration from classic tabletop RPGs. It is a single-player story driven kind of experience and the kind of game where choices are key and the way that you go about playing the game will probably be different from how I do and then different again to how one of your buddies does. This makes it the kind of game that is not only a great deal of fun to play, but also talk about too.
Private Virtual Dick!
No that is not some kind of clever pun because this is a lewd game. In Gamedec we get to create our own character and then we get to live the life of a detective. The twist here is that this is a virtual world and you are investigating crimes that are taking place in various video game style worlds!
This is a fantastic idea for a video game and I love the world that they have created here. This is a world where mankind has gone all in with virtual reality and second life stuff, so much so that the line between what is real and what is virtual is pretty much nonexistent!
If Bladerunner Was Isometric
I know that Bladerunner is the laziest comparison when it comes to cyberpunk style worlds, but I really do think that is the best way to describe the way that Gamedec looks. This game is played from an isometric point of view and rather than making you feel less connected to the world or having things not look as detailed, that is not the case at all. This is a fantastic looking game and as you are a detective in a virtual world, you get to go to different “games” and this provides the game with a great deal of variety. It is very well done and I have no doubt that after an hour or two, you will find yourself well and truly sucked into this world and I would say the visuals and presentation are just as responsible for that as the writing is.
Working The Crime Scene
“Essence of RPG” is the way that they have described the gameplay of Gamedec on Steam and I think that is a great way to look at it. It all starts with your character creation; you are free to develop your character in any way that you want there are various stats that you can work on or flat out ignore if you want. You can be a hero detective who is always striving to do the right thing. On the flip side, you can be a detective whose whole world is black and white and you are willing to do whatever it takes to bring people to justice.
The game will unfold for people in different ways based on the choices that they make during the various missions. What I think sounds the most exciting is all the detective work that you get to do. Talking to witnesses, chasing down perps, and trying to put it all together so you can crack a case and move on to the next thing.
There has been a ton of RPGs released in 2021, but I think that Gamedec is one of the more interesting ones to be released. The whole idea of playing as a detective, but in virtual worlds is very appealing to me as is the whole world that they have created in general. I love the way the gameplay is so varied and each player will have a slightly different or radically different experience.
- I love the world that they have created here
- It has very impressive visuals
- Working a case will make you feel like a real detective
- There are many important choices to be made
- This is the kind of game that will require a big time commitment
- I do wonder if it will be a bit of a slow burn in regards to the story
