For me, Age of Rust is one of the most interesting first-person action games to be released this year. Granted the game is not complete as I write this, but the team is working hard and what we have seen so far looks very impressive. It mixes sci-fi and horror which are two of my favorite genres and I can tell you right away that they mix them very well. What I like about this is that it is not just another shooter, it has more going on than just that. Do not et me wrong, there is a ton of action here, but there is more to it than that.
Mechs Gone Wild
Part of what drew me to Age of Rust in the first place was the story. The game takes place in the future and we play as a character called Quinn 7 who has been placed in cyber sleep for hundreds of years. You designed an AI and it went rogue and now the world is ruled by these mechs that kill any humans they see on sight!
You get awoken from your deep slumber and you need to find out what caused the mechs to go rogue and also find a way to stop them so mankind can once again live without fear of being destroyed. It is very cool stuff and something like you would see in a big budget action movie.
Variety Is The Spice Of Life
I have to say that Age of Rust is one of the best looking and most diverse first-person games to be released in 2021. This game looks fantastic and you would swear that it was made by one of the major developers! There are so many exciting locations that you will visit ranging from caves, forests, and even space stations.
More Than Mechs
You know how we just talked about a bunch of rogue mechs are out for blood? Well, the mechs are not the only thing that you have to worry about in this game! The state of the world has well and truly brought out the worst in humanity and as a result, there are bounty hunters and other sickos that will kill you on sight for their own selfish needs! A gunfight is never more than a few feet away and Age of Rust has some excellent gunplay thanks to having a nice selection of weapons.
More Than Bullets!
As well as featuring a great deal of action, you also have many puzzles that you will have to figure out as you progress through the game.
These are more cunning than what you would expect in a first-person shooter. This is one area of the game that I do worry a little about as I know that sometimes puzzles that try to be too clever can end up being more frustrating than fun.
I love a good sci-fi game that has horror elements in it too and that is why I am so drawn to what Age of Rust is offering. I like the way that there is a lot of shooting and action in this game, but they also have a deep and rich story along with some tricky puzzle sections that are sure to keep you on your toes. I highly recommend that you keep a closer eye on this one.

- Plenty of weapons to use
- They have tried to keep the gameplay quite varied
- Some of the puzzles may verge on being more frustrating than fun
- There is some weird NFT thing going on with the game that is not for me at all
