If you enjoy shooter games that force you to be very intelligent and precise with your moment, a new title just came out you might enjoy. Adamvision Studios and SneakyBox have paired up with genre veterans Atari to create something very interesting. Gravitar, a cult classic shoot-em-up, has been put back together in new ways in the form of Gravitar: Recharged.
This game is immediately going to attract fans who enjoyed the original. This provides you with a variety of solar systems to work through, taking on numerous challenges and missions that get progressively tougher. Test your skills, your reflexes, and your shooting accuracy courtesy of a highly enjoyable and endearing gaming experience.
We love Gravitar: Recharged because it can offer something that feels both old-school and modern all at once. Why, though? What makes it so fun?
A modern take on a cult classic
Old-school shooter games like this are quite rare today. Arcade shooters where you fly around the screen dodging bullets and taking on opponents have been famous since the likes of Space Raiders. This offers you all of the opportunities that you might need to play a rather modern take on a classic style of game. While those who have played vintage shooters from the 1980s will feel very much at home, those who missed that era can also enjoy this.
This takes a highly popular game, reimagines it for the modern era, and tacks on a whole range of extras that are worth seeing. The end result is a highly satisfying and enjoyable video game that packs in lots of modern improvements. Things that would have felt janky to a modern player feel smooth, and there is enough progression and content to keep you wanting to come back time and time again.
Engaging and energising old-school shooter action (7/10)
While there is nothing really revolutionary going on with Gravitar: Recharged, it is a fun game. There is much to like about how the missions unfold, about how the story plays out, and how the game progresses. Missions do not really take the difficulty spikes found in similar games in the past. There is a consistent level of growth that means new levels feel challenging but not too challenging.
For that reason, many people find that Gravitar: Recharged is a highly engaging and engrossing experience. Add in the polished visuals and the like, and you can easily see why so many return to this game to get a little reminder of some classic, old-school gaming.
Gravitar: Recharged might not be for everyone, as it can feel a touch repetitive at times, but for those who love this genre you will get many hours of fun out of this reimagining of a classic.
- Crisp visuals help to turn an old-school game into something much more modern
- Good progression system and variety ensures that the game remains challenging
- Avoids difficulty spikes and thus can be fun to play throughout
- Might not do enough to introduce people to the genre who have had poor prior experiences
- Progression is challenging, but ideas can feel repeated and forced at times
