In this fast paced multi-player mini-game, HalfLife 2: Deathmatch allows you to run one of two possible maps in a no-holds-barred fight to the death. Every player is immediately provided a lavish selection of weapons to play with, including the most popular weapon ever from previous installments of the game—the gravity gun. The gravity gun is an option that provides hilarious entertainment by allowing you to pick up objects nearby and chuck it at your opponents. If you ever wanted to kill someone via a toilet to the face, your opportunity awaits.
Two maps to choose from
As a mini game, HalfLife 2: Deathmatch doesn’t have a huge number of maps to entertain you with. The two maps from the original HalfLife 2 adapted to multiplayer use however, are extremely fun to play on. These maps include Overwatch and Lockdown. These two maps provide plenty of litter for chucking at opponents, places to hide, as well as just plain general fun.
Some lag
One of the biggest flaws this game has is the lag associated with it. This may be in part because the most popular way to kill others is the gravity gun, so you can expect nearly everyone playing to be toting around an object or sending it swinging through the air. Regardless of the cause, extreme lag can result. Overwatch seems to have more problems with lag than Lockdown, but both can get bogged down at times.
A bit challenging to set up
Although HalfLife 2: Deathmatch allows you to play with just your friends, it is by no means obvious how to do so. Instructions are available online on how to do so, but it requires more than just a click-of-the-button adjustment to the settings. You’ll need to go into the program itself, add a new page, and edit it with a line of code in order to get your own server to play on.
The best fast paced shooter available
If you want to play a quick game with friends, and not dedicate hours to gameplay, there are a lot of options available. Counter-Strike and Team Fortress 2 both have multiplayer options that will let you battle with your friends, but Halflife 2: Deathmatch manages to edge out the competition with the fun and chaos created by it’s gravity gun. The game also invites those quick sessions rather than rejecting them, helping to make spending a few minutes with friends during a normally busy day easier.
Half-Life 2: Deathmatch is a fun little game well worth a few minutes of your time. The hilarity of dragging around barrels, toilets, and other heavy blunt objects with adds to the amusement value of the game, and the quick matches keep things from ever getting dull. If you’re looking for a fast first person shooter to while away the time, this is a great game to entertain yourself with.
