KartRider: Drift

Look I know that KartRider: Drift being a free to play racer is sure to set some alarm bells ringing and I was right there with you. However, the more I looked into this game, the more fun it looked and I decided that I was wrong to judge it before actually taking the time to learn what this game was all about. I am a huge fan of kart racers and this one has so much charm to it that it will make you smile the whole time you are playing it. However, it also has the chops under the hood and is a damn fine racer in its own right too.

That was supposed to be a clever reference to the movie, It, but as I had to explain it I guess it was not that clever after all was it? Anyway, one of the things that is so awesome about KartRider: Drift is that this is a game everyone can play. PC, PlayStation, and Xbox can all get in on this game. While that is cool and all, the best thing about this is that this is a game that supports cross platform play, meaning that the player base is going to be huge so getting into a game will never be a hassle.

A Style To Make You Smile

How can you look at KartRider: Drift and not smile? I just love the whole style of this game and the character that I like best is the one that looks like Astro-Bot. You see, in this game, you get to pick your character and then customize the heck out of them. You can make them just the way you want and the game in general, has this very “kart racer” look about it that I just love. Going back to Astro-Bot for a minute, that is the game series I would probably say that the whole look and style of this game resembles the most.

Kart Racing With Skill And Fun

If you have played any kart racer that has been released over the last 20 or so years, KartRider: Drift is going to feel right at home. The driving in this game is very nice, smooth, and easy to figure out. Clearly, the comparison to make is Mario Kart and this is quite similar. The racing is easy to pick up and play, but there is a real skill to getting good at this game. You can play straight racing if you like, or you can go the Mario Kart route and have races with weapons. There are plenty of tracks, tournaments, races, and more to keep you busy here and it is all a great deal of fun.

Keep Your Wallet In Your Pocket

Ok, we need to address the elephant in the room and that is the fact that KartRider: Drift is a free to play game! Now, they have promised that this is a game that will not be pay to win, however in the time I have spent with the preview of the game, what you will be spending your money on has not been made clear. I would assume some kind of battle pass or season system will be in place here. However, they have repeatedly said that those who want to play the game without spending any money can do so and that is pretty cool.

Pros:

• I love the whole cool style that this game has
• It is free to play
• This is a cross platform game and that is awesome
• I love the customization thing that they have going on here

Cons:

• As of me writing this, they have not made clear what their monetary plans are for this game
• I hope that we get some Xbox and PlayStation characters in the game
