If you ask a keen action RPG fan what they love about these games, you would hear a number of different things. It might be the story, the visuals, the immersive world you are thrust into or the possibilities for exploration and discovery. These are great aspects that define this genre but when it comes to huge worlds such as this, the most amazing feature is usually the role-playing aspect where you can perform superhuman feats with the click of a few buttons. Little Devil Inside aims to provide this experience and turn you into a seasoned monster hunter.
This game plays rather like titles such Monster Hunter, Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Xenoblade Chronicles. Yet offers the scope and cute art style that is comparable to The Outer Wilds. This game promises a cinematic, imaginative and action-packed adventure and we want to see what is on offer ahead of it’s release. This is our preview of Little Devil Inside
The Monster Within
Little Devil Inside throws the player into a steampunk, 19th Century world which is meant to represent the world between heaven and hell. You might think that Limbo was a pretty boring place for its inhabitants. However, when you see what this game’s story has to offer, we think you will quickly reconsider. Your goal in this game is to research and document a full encyclopaedia of this surreal world. Which means you’ll have to see the most treacherous and fearsome things that this world has to offer. So you best be equipped for a skirmish or two.
As for the art style, this game has a quite unique visual design. The trailer we have been treated to showcases some gameplay and from this we have gathered two things. Firstly, this game offers some fantastically cinematic camera angles and set pieces. Something that will appeal to just about any player looking for an immersive and stylish gaming experience. Then secondly, the art style as a whole is very subdued, cartoonish and combined realistic environments with claymation style models to offer a truly unique look.
Monster Killin’ For a Livin’
Then as for the gameplay, we don’t really know what to expect from this one. We are assuming that this will be an open adventure where players must complete bounties and track down their targets. Plus, we assume that the game’s combat will be its primary focus and strength. We expect this title to offer incredible battle scenes, plenty of scope for exploration and a storyline that is equal parts satirical and scintillating.
Overall, we think that the art style and storyline of this title are the new draws to this new IP. The monster hunter genre is hardly a new concept and due to this, there is a fear that this game will be a little to similar. Plus, the game’s outlandish camera angles could become a chore to work through for those less appreciative of an aesthetic showcase. We think this game has a lot of potential.
However, due to its five-year development cycle and the rather unknown nature of how this game is pan out, we remain sceptical that this one will blow our minds.
- Unique realism meets claymation art direction
- Plot looks very promising
- Development cycle being this long raises many questions of the game’s quality
- Camera angles look stylish but awkward
- Monster Hunter genre is saturated already
