Lost Lullabies: The Orphanage Chronicles is one of those games that feels like it was made just for me! This is a horror game that you can play on your own or with three other people. To be honest with you, this is a game that I am equally excited to play on my own and with my buddies as well. This is an early access game and it is launching in early access with the first two of four chapters so that is something to please keep in mind. Still, I am so pumped for this that I had to do a little preview/early review for you guys.
A Truly Haunting And Disturbing Setting
Let me set the scene of what Lost Lullabies: The Orphanage Chronicles is all about as far as the story goes. Taking place in the sleepy little town of Lowell, the Lowell Orphanage was a place where nightmares are made from! Kids here we put through all kinds of sick and twisted experiments and many poor little ones lost their souls! However, in 1960, there was a mysterious fire that saw the orphanage burn to the ground! The game fast forwards 20 years to 1980 and the charred remains of the Lowell Orphanage are said to be super haunted!
Exercising the Demons!
The 1980 setting of Lost Lullabies: The Orphanage Chronicles is something that I think is very cool. We have a team of four ghost hunters that are setting up shop in the Lowell Orphanage to find out what happened there and to see if the place really is haunted! These ghost hunters find that this place has a mixture of tortured souls who just want to be laid to rest as well as more vengeful ghosts that are actively looking to do harm. I just freaking love the whole vibe that this game has going on! This is truly awesome stuff and if you love creepy movies and horror, you will fit right in here.
Putting The Pieces Together
Lost Lullabies: The Orphanage Chronicles is played from the first-person and the idea of each of the chapters is that you have a collection of ghosts that you need to deal with. You do this by solving the case of what happened to the ghost and this is done in a puzzle type way where each ghost has a different past. Some are more tragic and legit want help, others are looking to hurt and cause harm. You need to find items, put all the clues together and it is like one big puzzle to try and help or defeat a ghost. You can find trinkets that you can trade to get new items too so there is a good sense of progression here. I tend to play games like this on my own so I am very interested to see how it all works when playing this with other people. Oh, you also have a bunch of 1980 tech that is used for your ghost hunting equipment which I think is pretty damn cool.
A Real Sign Of The Times
The whole aesthetic of Lost Lullabies: The Orphanage Chronicles is super creepy and I love that about the game! With the orphanage being burned down in 1960 and our characters investigating it all in 1980, the game has a very cool style to everything and I think that the mixture of 60s and 70s fashion and so on is done really well. It certainly gives the game a more unique vibe over a horror game that has a more contemporary setting. The game has a very creepy style all around and I think that this is going to make it a pretty nerve-wracking experience for many people. Sound also plays a big part in the game, there is an option where you can have it so the game will pick up on any noise you make on your mic, leading to the ghosts knowing where you are!
While I do wish that Lost Lullabies: The Orphanage Chronicles was all released at once, having two of the four chapters to play at the early access launch is pretty good and is sure to get people pumped for the full game to be released. I am already all in on this and my excitement is most certainly worthy of that high score! However, I am still interested to see how this is going to shape up when played with buddies. If you are into horror games, this is one that has to be on your radar.
Pros:
- Helping or getting rid of the ghosts is like a puzzle game
- I love the whole '60s to 80s setting that the game has
- This could be one of the best horror games of 2025
- You can play on your own or with three other players
Cons:
- The game is launching with only two of the four chapters
- How long will it take for the other chapters to be released
