There seems to be an intangible connection between Lovecraft at 1C Entertainment, considering many past and future games are based on the novels. Once again, a direct homage to the author's works comes in Lovecraft's Untold Stories 2. But hey, the lore is great, and the branching concepts are fascinating. So why fix what's not broken, right?
Lovecraft's Untold Stories 2 continues the adventure from where its predecessor left off. We don't have a release date yet, but we can already take an insight into how this game will pan out based on the previews and comparisons with the first game. You'd already be able to see that the sequel has learned from the follies of the first and wants to bring a different experience.
No Love, No Craft
The staunch difference with Lovecraft's Untold Stories 2 is that the developer has ditched the idea of pixelated artwork in favor of hand-drawn graphics. The game already looks gorgeous and much more aligned to the Lovecraftian universe that it seeks to portray. With 6 different characters and hordes of enemies, it seems like we're going to get our fair share of action.
There's more of a sense of focus and depth behind Lovecraft's Untold Stories 2. The gameplay refines the liberal, generated approach from the last game to create some more immersive locations. The most prominent new feature includes the ability to craft weaponry, giving players a plethora of options in tackling the endless hordes of enemies.
Like the first game, Lovecraft's Untold Stories 2 is fast-paced, rich in lore, and violent as it has ever been. However, there's much more of a feeling that this dark world is finally coming to life. While we don't know the idea of the narrative yet, there is plenty of potentials to bring one out from the visuals alone.
Players can also get excited about the idea of cooperative multiplayer and take their combat skills into a team arena. It's yet another feature that gives Lovecraft's Untold Stories 2 a decent-sized overhaul. Arguably, it's a complete reconstruction considering the less-than-positive player feedback the original game got.
More Untold Stories To Share
Lovecraft's Untold Stories 2 seems to take influence from games like Transistor to inspire the core gameplay. Given its success, it's a match made in heaven. You get the exciting combat paired with the dark and macabre visuals of the Lovecraftian universe. We'll ultimately have to see how the game plays out, but its overhaul already looks legions ahead of its predecessor.
So, do you think it will be worth playing? The previews that show combat and visuals alone look about enough to entertain the masses. If anything, it will be an art game worth playing. Solely because it has a decent take on the Lovecraft universe in a playable format. Will it become a cult hit? Given the issues with the last game, probably not.
