Transistor

Transistor is a sci-fi action role-playing game that has all the bells and whistles you’d want from this genre. In this game, you play as Red, a badass character that wields a weapon called the Transistor. The Transistor is a mysterious weapon that seems to be capable of a large variety of abilities. As you play through this story, you’ll encounter many adversaries that are willing to take you down in order to protect their interests. There is also the looming problem of the Process, a robotic force that is commanded by the Camerata, an underground group of high-ranking officials in Cloudbank city.

The game is developed by Supergiant Games, the creators of Bastion. It comes with a beautifully crafted soundtrack that will leave you fully immersed in the futuristic setting of Cloudbank City.

Story

The story begins with Red kneeling over the body of a deceased person. He has been killed by the giant glowing sword in his back, the Transistor itself. Red is a singer that came across this gruesome scene and the attack that killed this mysterious man also took Red’s voice. It is discovered that the Transistor sword has some mystical abilities. By absorbing the deceased man into the sword, he is able to speak and Red takes the Transistor with the man as the story’s narrator.

As you leave the crime scene, Red is encountered by the Process, a robotic army that is commanded by the mysterious Camerata. During the course of the story, Red encounters various members of the Camerata and confronts them while unlocking a larger conspiracy that connects the Transistor, Red, the Process, the Camerata and Cloudbank city together for a larger overarching story.

Eventually, you’ll discover the true power of the Transistor, and how it is the key to controlling the Process. However, things are looking grim as the Process becomes independent of Camerata and decides to take law into their own hands. Thwarting this plan is a fun and exciting adventure as you uncover the secrets of Cloudbank city.

Gameplay

In Transistor, the gameplay is pretty exciting. Designed with an isometric POV, you can get a broader view of environments. The combat involves both real-time and frozen sequences where you can use regular attacks and absorb new powers from victims of the Process. This is entirely done through the power of the Transistor. The new abilities you can gain are called Functions, and they can help you diversify the abilities available to you during battle.

The Functions that can be equipped amass to only four in total, so you have to carefully choose the best ones for your playstyle. Some of them are great for clearing waves of enemies, while others help you remain protected during battle, so it is really up to the player to decide.
