What the heck is Moorhuhn 2 I can hear many of you asking right now? Well, I came into this pretty ignorant, but in my research, I have learned that this is part of a long-running series of games that were very popular in Germany. There have been Moorhuhn games released on PC, Nintendo Wii, Mobile, PlayStation 2 and even as recently as the Nintendo 3DS! The game I am looking at today was released for the Game Boy Color back in 2001.
Wow, This Looks Decent!
As I did not exactly know what to expect when I went into Moorhuhn 2 for the Game Boy Color. I must admit that I was pleasantly surprised by the visuals this game has to offer. Granted it is not going to be winning any awards, but still, the chickens or whatever the heck they are all look great and have a ton of personality to them. They have a kind of Donkey Kong Country vibe to them and they look great when they are moving. There is not much to the background of the game, but still, I was pleasantly surprised at how much charm the visuals of the game had.
Why Did The Chicken Cross The Road?
You know I keep saying chicken, but I think these things could actually be turkeys??? Ahh, who cares! The gameplay of Moorhuhn 2 is that of a shooter and it is way more fun than I thought it would be. Each “level” of the game has you needing to shoot chickens, spiders or balloons. That is all there is to the game, but it is done quite well and I found myself actually quite addicted to it.
One level will have you shooting chickens as they fly (can chickens fly?) then you can shoot spiders as they move on their webs and then you blast balloons. My favorite level that I did was shooting the chickens as they appeared behind things, kind of like a game of whack-a-mole.
The cursor that you control moves at the ideal speed. It is quick, but not so quick that it feels impossible to control. You are playing for the high score, that is your motivation and as a quick pick up and play kind of game, it works very well. It will not take you long to get to the credits, but playing again to get a better score is what will keep you going.
I love it when I get the chance to play a game I have never heard of and it turns out to be pretty good. I spent a while with this and I must say that I had a fun time. I am not sure that Moorhuhn 2 is the kind of game I would come back to time and time again. However, I did have enough fun that I am interested to try out some of the other releases.
