Are you huge into motorcycling? Does every intricate detail count when translating your biking experience into the most immersive playable content? MotoGP 19 feels your pain - and seeks to offer one of the most lucrative motorcycle simulators around. Even when you can't get out into the open road - you'll be able to drive on the big screen and feel the magic of competitive motorcycling.
Honestly, I do believe this is a very niche market for a game. But there are enough Moto Grand Prix enthusiasts out there that demand a virtual experience for the competition. As an outsider to the sport - the whole concept looks basic on the surface. Though most assuredly, there's more to it than just driving a motorcycle around the track - right?
Drive Me Right Round
Well, on the note of being an outsider - it's actually pretty fascinating how this game drags you in. The intricacies of MotoGP are delivered almost instantly with cinematic visuals conveying riders' nerves, bikes, pit crews, and more. Already you can see that MotoGP 19 isn't just going to be a ride-and-go racing game - there's aims to bring an in-depth touch. Both emotional and physical.
You'll create your own character and seek to compete in the many competitions MotoGP has to offer. The customization options conceptualize a self-made narrative for a genre that rarely has any, to begin with. That is before diving into the fantastic and detailed visuals of the game - making sure every last sticker on your bikes is present. Even for a player with little past in racers - the game is surprisingly immersive.
The standard racing mechanics follow players driving their motorcycles through challenges on the skill, timing, and speed. Each race feels a bit urgent, keeping drivers entertained on each one. The intensity of MotoGP 19 makes a refreshing racer that really does try to deliver an experience disposing of the traditionally stale racing genre. It does hit a bump, however, when it comes to a few hours of gameplay.
It's not too long into the game when you've found that you've done everything to see and do. There are limitations on the tracks, motorcycles, competitions, and how you can play the game. It can take a while to master - but if you are already adept at racing games. You may feel you've beaten the content before you've even reached the finish line. Besides some new game modes and customization - it all feels the same very quickly.
Get on Your Bike
Much to my surprise - MotoGP 19 is a racer people can find themselves playing more than expected. The level of detail, entertaining career mode, and decent customization options can provide hours of entertainment. The driving challenges are a bit more refined than other motorcycle games such as TT Isle of Man: Ride on the Edge.
That said, you won't find much to enjoy after you've mastered the mechanics of the game. What MotoGP 19 is seemingly lacking is content that keeps the enthusiasts and outsiders alike engaged. Possibly, career options and side missions outside of the standard motorcycle racing challenges. The career mode attempts to remedy this - but there's a feeling that it needs to be enhanced just a tad. Otherwise, this is an excellent racing game.
- Realistic and immersive MotoGP simulator
- Entertaining career mode with attention to detail
- Decent character customization to set your own narrative
- Feels a bit stale after a few hours in
- Doesn't feel too much different from its predecessors
- Could use more unique content that tests motorcycle driving skills
