You can currently check out a free demo of OPUS: Echo of Starsong which I highly recommend you do! This is a narrative driven puzzle game with a fantastic sci-fi story that I cannot want to learn more about. It has a gorgeous art style and I can see this easily being one of the most popular and highest rated indie titles when it is fully completed.
The Song Of Asteroids
Nope, I am not talking about some cheesy 80s pop song made to get in on the popularity of asteroids! OPUS: Echo of Starsong features two protagonists. Eda has a special ability that allows her to hear the “song” that asteroids make and asteroids in this universe hold immense power that people are willing to go to war over.
The other protagonist is called Jun and he heads out into space to try and redeem himself and bring honor to his clan by harnessing the immense power of the asteroids. They are thrust together and soon a huge mystery unravels as they head to the heart of space. This is amazing, amazing stuff and I have just touched on the bare minimum of what the story offers.
How Long Can You Go!
Ok, so having a cheeky Limbo reference in my OPUS: Echo of Starsong had to be done, but that is the kind of vibe I get from the visuals. This is just much brighter and more stylized than Limbo was. It is a great looking game and even though it is in 2D, it is very impressive. The character models are detailed enough and can convey a great deal of emotion. The world that they have created here is something truly special and it is so good, that I would love to see what they could do if they were able to turn this world 3D. I honestly cannot say enough good things about the visuals of this game!
Control Your Narrative
The main thing that OPUS: Echo of Starsong has going for it is the story. The team behind this game has designed it so that people can fully embrace the story. There are some basic puzzles that you will have to solve and there are also little bits of resource management that you have to contend with as well.
However, the game is designed so that anyone can enjoy it and I think that is pretty cool. This is a story that they are clearly very proud of and I cannot wait until it is fully complete so we can see how it all unfolds.
I am very, very impressed with OPUS: Echo of Starsong so far. The two main characters and the way they are brought together is very interesting and I cannot want to see the end of it. The way the gameplay is rather basic, but also relaxing is interesting as it keeps you interacting with the game, but the story is always the main focus. I do not see anyone getting frustrated by a puzzle here and then not wanting to continue with the game.
- This game has an incredible story
- I love the idea of the “singing asteroids”
- Two very interesting characters
- The whole world has some very interesting characters that you can interact with
- The game may be a bit “passive” for some people
- As of writing, there is no concrete release date for this
