In Paquerette Down the Bunburrows, you play a sweet little girl named Paquerette, who is just trying to get her bunnies home. The problem is that her bunnies don’t want to come home! Paquerette must chase her little bunny friends around their burrows to catch them and bring them home.
In order to win the game and catch the bunny, Paquerette will have to trick the bunny into jumping down a dead end. This is harder than it seems as the bunny tends to jump away from the character, but the movements of the bunny are predictable enough to let players think ahead.
The game works a bit like older classic games like Pacman, but you’re purely pursuing bunnies instead of worrying about other factors as well.
Lots of levels
Paquerette Down the Bunburrows has a huge demo, with over 13 levels. They added more levels to the demo recently to showcase the new pickaxe mechanic. Despite the enormous demo, the developers assure players there is much more to the game than the demo. The game promises secret game mechanics involving baby bunnies. Once the game is released, it’s likely we’ll see more of this additional new mechanic.
Adorable Graphics
The game is designed to emphasize the cuteness of bunnies, and it’s shown off in the artwork. Paquerette Down the Bunburrows has a pink color scheme, and a pixelated art style. The artwork and color looks very similar to a related game still in the works by the developer, Horribunnies.
Sound
The music is just as cute and whimsical as the graphics. The music was created by Herbie Bunny, who also did the music for their other game. The music is cute, and changes as the game progresses so you’re not hearing the same tune on repeat. The music has a slight techno feel to it, and is very enjoyable.
Relaxing Gameplay
All in all, the game is easy to learn but challenging to complete. Each new level makes it a little harder to catch the bunnies, with more tunnels and faster reaction times from the bunnies. The bunnies instinctively don’t go down dead ends, so it can be tricky to trap them.
Towards the end you get a new mechanic, a pickaxe that allows you to cross between tunnels. Use this carefully, because if you can move through the new space to catch the bunny, the bunny can move through that new space too!
This game plays like a classic arcade game from the 60s. Although the idea is fresh and original, chasing bunnies and hoping to get them back in your pen, the story isn’t much deeper than that. If you’re looking for a relaxing time-killer, this is a great choice. If you’re hoping for a deep story that will get you thinking long after the game is finished, this isn’t the choice for you. It’s a fun and lighthearted game, but not much more than that.
