Pest Control is part simulator part turn based strategy game and it is a lot of fun. I am pretty certain that I would no way would have what it takes to work in pest control! I would probably freak out the moment I saw a rat and that would be me fired. Well, in this game I do not have to worry about getting fired. Sure, I have to worry about getting attacked by a shape shifting raccoon, but at least I cannot get rabies through my PC screen!
Lenny Is Hard At Work
In Pest Control, we play as a pest exterminator called Lenny. Lenny is a hard-working guy who is trying to make the best of his extermination business as possible. There is a little bit of story here as you get the details about what kind of pest problem a client is having before you roll your sleeves up and try to take care of it.
There are many different creatures that you have to deal with in this game. Rats, snakes, raccoons and they all have different types, like the shape shifting raccoon I mentioned earlier. Pest Control has a lot of strategy for the way you take care of each mission. Each mission is different, one time you may need to capture it, another it is full on extermination. You have different traps and sprays and it is ultimately up to you to decide how you are going to go about taking on the mission. Some pets will run from you, others will actually attack you!
Moving On Up
I was very impressed with the amount of progression that Pest Control offered. In some ways, I would say that it has RPG like elements. You can work on your skill tree as you become a better pest exterminator. You can grow your skills, learn new things and you can even build various traps and equipment too. It is very impressive just how much you can do in this game outside the actual pest catching gameplay. I think they do a good job in making it easy to figure out, but hard to master and that is what I like from a game. I will say that my PC did struggle a bit with this and I am not sure why, it did stutter from time to time which was annoying.
I cannot be the only one who gets kind of Mario vibes from Lenny? Anyway, Pest Control is a nice-looking game. It has a lot of personality and I like how there is a ton of variety. There are over 20 different pests and close to 40 different locations for you to visit. This along with how you are free to tackle a mission anyway you want helps keep the game from getting stale.
I have really enjoyed my time with Pest Control and think that it is a game that has a great deal of charm. I like the way that you have to think about each mission in terms of what you are going to use, the moves you make, and so on.
It adds way more strategy to things than you would think. It is also really neat how it feels like you are always needing to build something or work on getting your skill tree improved. If you like tactics-based games, be sure to give this one a try.

- The game is way more challenging than you would think
- There are many ways you can tackle each mission
- It looks like a fairly simple game, but my PC did have framerate issues with this
- Some of the missions do verge on being more frustrating than fun
