Sayri: The Beginning

Enter a world of wonder and discovery, powered by some of the most impressive visuals we've seen in a platformer in a while – as you explore your alien surroundings in Sayri: The Beginning. Described as the "video game equivalent of a warm hug," this friendly title is sure to get a smile out of any type of player.

While the game invites players to explore an exciting new world, some of the collectathon elements and Metroidvania-like exploration quirks might prove unsatisfactory for some players. Still, there are way more positives than negatives in this title, as we'll soon find out.

Discovery is Key

After some catastrophic events force it to leave its home planet, Sayri (a young extraterrestrial) finds itself crash-landed in the visually-stunning world of Ayris. In search of a new place to call its home, Sayri must learn how to deal with its new surroundings, forge alliances, and make friends to finally establish itself in this new world.

The locals are way more than just a nice addition to the game's plot. Even though the game might look like a more refined take on the classic Banjo-Kazooie formula, Sayri: The Beginning uses every pal you meet in your journeys as a new, unlockable ability to let you explore some new parts of Ayris.

Along the way, you'll find some obstacles that might seem impenetrable – that is, until you become friends with the right creature for the task. That's more or less the gist of Sayri: The Beginning. Making friends and exploring the alien planet is most of what you'll be doing here – that is until you discover the entertaining puzzles that are scattered all over the planet.

Every puzzle is introduced organically into the gameplay. Physics-based tests of skill and platforming gauntlets make up most of the puzzles in the game, and they're all great for players of any skill level.

Charm in Spades

Just one look at Sayri: The Beginning the visuals is all you'll need to understand what kind of game this is. Everything from the textures to the character design screams charm. Every little detail about the alien world looks adorable and, more importantly, fun.

If you enjoy titles like the early Jak & Daxter games, then Sayri: The Beginning is bound to please. The music adds to the experience, too, as it perfectly captures the atmosphere of the game. If you ever wanted to run around in a colorful world full of cute characters, say no more.

However, there are some limitations to this game's cute design. Even though most of the game's visuals are, for lack of a better word, amazing, there are still some issues with some of the character animations. Considering how colorful everything looks, seeing a character fall flat while running or jumping might become a bit annoying.

Do not let that get in the way of your enjoyment, though! Sayri: The Beginning has a ton of charm and tons to see, so there's plenty for anyone to enjoy.
