Sudden Attack

Sudden Attack could easily be called one of Asia's most popular online FPS games in more than a decade, and with good reason. With massive popularity in both Korea and China, Sudden Attack emerges as an alternative to other big-name shooters that might be more popular with Western audiences.

What have we been missing by playing other titles instead of Sudden Attack, then? A solid, outstandingly dynamic cooperative shooter. Featuring a tried-and-true approach to the online FPS genre, Sudden Attack offers more than meets the eye for new and veteran players.

Combat Tactics

It's clear from the start just what type of game Sudden Attack seems to be emulating. Almost everything, from the game's UI to some of the weapons' behavior, seems to be directly inspired by Valve's Counter-Strike series. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, as it provides us with a basic understanding of how all the different elements work together during gameplay.

While most other competitive online FPS titles would rely heavily on a tactical approach to combat, Sudden Attack (as the name implies) strikes fast and hard. A speedy sense of combat and fluid maneuverability are the two pillars upon which most of the game's mechanics are built.

Despite its apparent lack of originality, Sudden Attack still offers a healthy dose of innovative game modes that will keep players hooked on its fast-paced gameplay.

More Weapons, More Choices

One thing that might limit some players' enjoyment of the Counter-Strike series is that Valve's juggernaut has always been more or less based on real-life combat designs. This means that most (if not all) operators have been inspired by realistic military gear and equipment.

On the other hand, Sudden Attack shows some clear Korean inspiration in some of its characters' designs. From anime-inspired operators to colorful weapons and armaments, this game feels more like a realistic Fortnite than anything else.

Another area where Sudden Attack excels is in its multiple game modes. Things like using only knives or sniper rifles serve as great diversions to spice things up a bit.

Map design, while a bit crowded, is also top-notch. Sudden Attack seems to have a predilection for small arenas rather than the large, open areas that some Call of Duty maps seem to like so much.

In a nutshell, there's a reason why this game has been so popular in an entire continent for over a decade. The fast-paced action and intense multiplayer challenges are more than enough to keep players invested in its immensely satisfying gameplay loop.

Perhaps the only major downside would have to be the game's visuals. There's a silver lining to this, though: the basic 3D environments mean that the game can be played on essentially any rig – something that is not always the case anymore with games like Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.
