The Bridge Curse Road to Salvation

I love horror games and The Bridge Curse Road to Salvation is one that I have been very excited about for quite some time now. This is based on a Taiwanese legend and I must admit that I am very familiar with some Japanese horror stories, movies, and games. The horror that comes from Taiwan is not something I am familiar with at all. That is actually one of the main reasons I have found myself so captivated by the story this game is trying to tell.

A School, A Curse, And Lots Of Death

From what I understand, The Bridge Curse Road to Salvation is based on a movie that is based on a Taiwanese urban legend about a curse and a ghost at a school. The story sees a group of students who have awoken this curse and its vengeful ghost with a thirst for blood trying to stop the curse all the while surviving. I know it is not Taiwanese, but I do get some similarities with other Eastern horror stories such as The Grudge and The Ring. I will say that the steam page for this has a less than great English translation, but in the demo of the game, I never had any issues understanding what is going on.

Scaring The Crap Out Of Me!

I have been watching horror movies since I was a kid and I feel that I have a high tolerance for it. Still, The Bridge Curse Road to Salvation managed to creep the hell out of me and even made me jump. There is a part where you see the ghost over someone’s shoulder (I think that it is in the first trailer) and it legit made me jump. I love stuff like this in a game as it keeps you on edge. The first-person viewpoint here is the right choice and ultimately the gameplay is all about sneaking around and not getting found by the ghost. However, as you are scared, you also want to run! There are puzzles to solve and as you solve them more of the story will be told to you so you can fully understand the backstory of this cool urban legend.

Dark And Scary!

I think that the visuals in The Bridge Curse Road to Salvation are great. I already talked about how the game made me jump, but I just love the whole aesthetic of what they have done here. The artists who brought this game world together truly did a wonderful job as they made sure that each time you go into a room, you stop and look around so you can try and get an idea of what is going to try and scare you. Some of the movement when you are running fast gave me a tiny bit of motion sickness, but to be fair, that was probably because I was freaking out the whole time, I was playing the demo.

Pros:

• I truly am fascinated by the story that is being told
• It has some fantastic jump scares
• The sneaking and puzzle solving gameplay is fun
• This is the kind of game that keeps you on edge the whole time you play it

Cons:

• The game is just a tad rough around the edges
• I did get a tiny bit motion sick when I was moving fast
