This addictive third-person shooter mixes elements of looter-shooters to provide an entertaining loop of combat and rewards as you scour the city for new missions and gear. Thanks to its gritty setting, realistic tone, and loads of cool weapons and gadgets, The Division 2 is a great game to enjoy with friends.
Main Game Features
- Solo or four-player cooperative play
- Third-person squad shooting gameplay
- Level up your character and earn new gear
The Division 2 takes place less than a year after the events of the previous game, Tom Clancy's The Division, when an outbreak of a virus known as the Green Poison changed the world forever. As the country unravels into chaos and order falls, the capital begins to experience attacks from local bandit groups, requiring immediate protection. You and your squad of Division soldiers are called in to protect the White House and clear Washington D.C of threats, which is far easier said than done. Alongside other Division agents like Kelso and Ortega, you'll locate and uncover pockets of bandit factions as you reclaim monuments, museums, and all sorts of real-world locations.
In truth, the story in The Division 2 is pretty par for the course and rarely offers anything of true surprise. However, it's a well-written narrative with an interesting setting, leading to moments of intensity and awe. The attention to detail is especially noteworthy, as the game is a great representation of the actual city of Washington D.C. Although you won't remember most of the characters' names, The Division 2 has a story that's still worth seeing through.
Similar to other Tom Clancy games like Rainbow Six and Splinter Cell, The Division 2 offers a blend of exciting action and stealth, played from a third-person perspective. The game can be enjoyed as both a solo experience or online with up to three friends, but it can be difficult to survive as a lone wolf, so we suggest bringing friends. Set in an open-world map full of missions to complete, The Division 2 plays much like Borderlands or other looter-shooters, where the pursuit of better gear and leveling up is always your main objective. As you clear buildings and complete objectives for story missions, you'll gain experience points that can be spent on extra abilities or gadgets to use in combat. Increasing your experience level also lets you equip better guns and gear, raising your overall combat score in the process.
While a big chunk of The Division 2 is player-versus-environment content, you can also enjoy some competitive PvP action in the game's Dark Zones. These three sections of the map are free-for-all zones where you and your squad battle against other squads online as you all fight for high-quality loot. Extra challenges can also be found in the game's several world bosses, as well as the post-story endgame missions. By the time you reach the end of the game, you'll also be able to specialize your character into one of four classes, allowing for further customization.
The Division 2 is an exciting shooter that pits you and your friends against a wide open map of missions and content to complete, rewarding you with better loot and weapons. It's a satisfying formula that can be played in short bursts or for long play sessions, with the experience rarely becoming stale.
Unless you're playing solo, where you'll need to play passively to survive, The Division 2 offers some explosive moments of action that put you in the center of the battle. Even when compared to some of the best tactical shooting games out there, The Division 2 is a solid pick for your next cooperative adventure.
