Placed on a planet with horribly cold weather and an alien species hungry for humans, Lost Planet: Extreme Condition Colonies Edition is an intense shooter created by Capcom. Set in the future where Earth has been demolished by war and nearby planets are colonized, you play as a young scoundrel who opposes a massive corporation. Searching the ice-filled planet for resources while under attack from aliens, Lost Planet: Extreme Condition Colonies Edition puts players in a tough fight for survival.
Main Game Features
- Third-person and first-person action gameplay
- Fight against various deadly alien warriors
- Includes all downloadable content and expansions
Lost Planet: Extreme Condition Colonies Edition starts with humanity nearing extinction, as the Earth has become too unstable from war and environmental damage. Looking for a way out, a giant company called NEVEC plans to take over the frozen planet E.D.N III. However, E.D.N III is already the home of a killer alien species called the Akrid, who don't take kindly to visitors. Playing as Wayne Holden, a rebel with amnesia, you explore E.D.N III fighting against hostile NEVEC and Akrid forces alike.
Most of the main story is focused on the fight between Wayne, NEVEC, and the Akrid, with many new characters introduced and then killed off. However, like Capcom's other big game Resident Evil, the voice acting is exceptionally bad. Even when situations are supposed to be very serious, the dialogue is often so bad that it's funny. Besides that, the story really isn't all that interesting unless you're really into campy science fiction. However, the slow and badly acted narrative doesn't ruin the action.
The good news is that Lost Planet: Extreme Conditions Colonies Edition is lots of fun to play, once you get comfortable with the slightly weird controls. You can switch between third-person and first-person viewpoints at any time, but it's much easier when you can see more of your environment. If you ever get bored of the standard weapons, you can occasionally find a mech to jump in, which hold powerful guns like rocket launchers. However, if you're not in a mech, you must pay attention to your energy meter, as the cold climate can kill you just as fast as a roaming alien.
This version of the game also includes all of the DLC for the original Lost Planet: Extreme Conditions, adding more multiplayer and single-player modes to enjoy. On the single-player side, extra modes like Time Trials, Score Attack, and FPS mode let you experience the game in new ways. For multiplayer, four new maps are added to the existing pool, while Human vs Akrid mode lets you stalk your friends in alien form. However, all multiplayer modes are only playable online, as there is no local option or campaign co-op.
There aren't many third-person shooter games like Lost Planet: Extreme Conditions Lost Colonies Edition, with its harsh weather, awesome mech suits, and fun movement. This version adds many extra features for both single-player and multiplayer modes, so you won't find a better way to play.
It's a clunky and messy game, but it stays fun despite those problems. We recommend you try it for yourself!
