The Engagement

I read the description of The Engagement and thought that it sounded like it had the potential to be a really good lewd visual novel style of game. The premise sounded neat and from what I saw before I jumped in the character renders were very well done. However, this is one of those games that is just so freaking weird that you are left wondering what the hell is going on the whole time you are playing it. To be fair, that kind of works as it kept me playing as I wanted to know what kind of weird stuff would happen next.

I Wish That I Had Jesse’s Girl!

The plot of The Engagement is all over the place. The basic premise is that we are away on a work retreat and we are with this cute girl called Suzie who is our friend’s girlfriend. We do also have a girlfriend of our own and the basics of the story are that it is about temptation and either trying to hook up with someone, trying to be a good guy and stay faithful, or even trying to string them both along. When I read this premise, I thought that it sounded pretty good.

Sweet Dreams Are Made Of This

Ok, so while the premise of the story was good and grounded in reality, it is like the developer of The Engagement wanted to make two games as there is so much weird stuff going on. There is a plane crash that happens in the game and a plane crash is a pretty big deal, right? However, here it is a throwaway moment that leads to pretty much nothing. The weirdest thing is the dreams and these strange dream creatures! What the heck was that all about? Plus, there is a weird “rapey” type thing going on with a great deal of the XXX stuff as well.

On The Road To Nowhere

The Engagement is a lewd visual novel and as you would have guessed, the gameplay sees you having to make various choices to move the story along. Thankfully, the game is not too long, but the choices you get to make are so cryptic. I had no indication if a choice was a major event that could alter the path I was on, lead to a different ending, or if it was just a throwaway choice that ultimately meant nothing.

Something Or Someone Like You

The character renders in The Engagement are at least good. The game has some very attractive ladies, but there is not much in the way of animation in this game, actually, there is pretty much none! Still, I can appreciate the characters in the game and I think that the main love interests are cute enough that you do kind of want to try and get with them both to see how it all turns out. I found that the lewd content was dished out at a pretty decent rate too.

Pros:

• Some of the character renders are nice
• A playthrough of the game does not take too long
• It could be so weird it is good for some people
• The idea of trying to keep two women happy is pretty good

Cons:

• The story being told here makes absolutely zero sense
• There are far better lewd visual novels out there than this one!
