Typer Shark! Deluxe

If you’ve grown up on ipads or other devices, learning to type on a keyboard can be a huge shock. Whether you’re young or old, typing efficiently is a valuable skill, and not the easiest skill to learn. TyperShark! Deluxe is a game aimed at making typing fun for people of all ages.

While the graphics leave something to be desired, (this was originally developed in 2006 after all) the game certainly works as an educational tool to help people learn how to type.

Search for treasure

In this game, you are a scuba diver in search of long lost treasure. You’re not alone on your journey however. Take a look around as you search and you’ll quickly realize that you’re surrounded by hungry sharks! The only way to save yourself is to quickly type the word you see on the shark. If you do this, a shark zapper will zap the shark and save you.

The game offers a number of different missions you can go on, with different sharks and even piranhas depending on where you go. Defeat them all and you’ll come away not only a winner, but a better typer too.

Tutorial available

If you’re a little worried about just jumping into the game with little to no typing skills, don’t worry. The game also has a tutorial which gently walks you through the basics of typing. You can practice on the tutorial until you feel more confident, and then switch to the easiest mode while playing. “Easy” mode slows the fish down as they approach you, so you have more time to type the word. You can select a more difficult mode later as you gain in ability.

Can be buggy

Many people have complained about the game being buggy. This includes things like being unable to play other games while TyperShark! Deluxe is open, not being able to play it after purchase at all, and sometimes crashes. While perhaps less exciting than TyperShark! If you’re struggling with how buggy it is, Tux Typing offers cute penguins instead, while still giving people the typing skills they need.

Could benefit from an RPG element

The game surprisingly has a storyline to it, and develops in a mildly interesting way. While it’s unfair to expect the game to provide gripping story as well as get the job of educating people done, it could easily have been improved with a few added elements. Although the story allows you to level up and progress, it doesn’t have a skill tree, nor can you get new abilities.
