Land of Screens is an excellent indie game all about getting away from social media and unplugging from the internet for a while. It’s fun, quirky, and relaxing to play through, making it perfect for a quiet evening gaming session. If this sounds like something you’d be interested in trying out, then keep reading, as I’m going to go over a little bit more of what you can expect from the game.
A world plagued by social media
Holland is a young woman who has just gone through a breakup and her socials are going wild because of it. Wanting to get away from it all for a while, she decides to avoid social media and focus on building relationships with people in the real world, but everywhere she looks people are glued to their phones.
In Land of Screens, you’ll step into the shoes of Holland and help guide her through a world plagued by social media to help her forge new, meaningful relationships with some help from old friends. If this story concept sounds cool to you, then definitely consider downloading Land of Screens, because the game is heavily narrative-driven and is sure to leave you with some excellent unforgettable gaming memories.
A point and click adventure
Land of Screens is a point and click adventure, meaning the controls are simple and can be easily figured up by anyone. All you have to do is click around on the screen and watch as the story unfolds before your eyes. If you've ever played Day Of The Tentacle Remastered, know that Land of Screens has similar point and click gameplay.
From parties full of strangers to concerts and family reunions, you'll have to navigate and explore a variety of venues using your mouse as a pointer. And hey, if you spot anyone that looks interesting, go over and talk to them! You never know what kinds of exciting people you’ll meet during your adventure.
Colours and themes
Lastly, let’s talk a bit about the graphics. They’re simple, elegant, and utilise shapes really nicely to give every environment and character a bubbly look. The use of colour in the various environments helps bring out certain emotions, too, which I think is really neat.
The colours used in the outdoor environments are so much more vibrant than those used in indoor environments, which relates to the theme of leaving the negativity of social media behind and finding joy elsewhere out in the world. There's a lot of great symbolism in this game with regards to the graphics and colours and it's fantastic to see.
Land of Screens is a fantastic story-rich game that I'd recommend everyone play at least once. It’s a great experience overall that’ll leave you wanting more at the end of it. And who knows, maybe you’ll even be convinced to put your phone down and go out exploring the world more when you’re done with the game!
- Lovely graphics and use of colour
- Lots of humorous situations and dialogue
- A rich story full of interesting characters and encounters
- The game is quite short
- It’s quite slow at times, so if you like fast-paced action then this may not be the game for you
