Valiant Hearts: The Great War

Valiant Hearts: The Great War is one of them out of the blue games from Ubisoft like Mario and Rabbids making it always excited when Ubisoft announce a game. Even though there is no game mechanic similarity between either of them.

Valiant Hearts have been released on PC and all current consoles, so if you read this and think this game is for you, definitely check it out!

Valiant hearts focus on the WW1 era of time which hasn’t really been covered by many games. Most games focus on WW2, for example; Call of Duty, Battlefield and many other games which feels like a very overdone time frame in video games and WW1 is a breath of fresh air for a gamer.

Valiant Hearts doesn’t take the easy route and just focus on the action you rarely even fire a gun in the game. It focuses more on the effects of the war and the people in the war. It follows five different characters through the war and it goes into great depth about there story. So you really feel for these characters making it a great story-driven game. The art style alone inspires you to play this game with its cartoon art style which really makes you feel that you are actually just watching a great five-part cartoon series.

Valiant Heart is a puzzle game where you solve a puzzle to progress in the game but these puzzles are slightly too easy. One puzzle can be as simple as finding clothing to wear as a disguise to get to a different location which makes you focus more on the story it does take a lot from the actual gameplay. Also, this could actually bore some people as it could be a bit too much like a history lesson than a game. The game does focus slightly too much on the history aspect more than the stories of the characters in the game. It could really benefit from a couple more complex puzzle or maybe even a little mini-game just to keep people invested. This game does have some humour to it so the mini-game could have been slightly comedic just to give you something a little extra while playing.

If you’re looking for a game set in WW1 this is definitely the game for you because there aren't many out there. There is a lack of action for the gamers used to play a video game like Battlefield but that is nowhere need a bad thing. As it takes away the over the top action and replace it with a great story and a fantastic cartoon art style. Even though the game is a little small and could do with a little more complex puzzles being a puzzle game but the story and in-depth characters really make up for the lack of complex puzzles. It’s a great experience for anyone looking for a great story to anyone who likes a bit of history. I would give the game a solid 8.
