It's understandable if one could be skeptical about investing in a game that looks like a rushed job, showcasing inconsistencies without even playing. Valkyrie: Dawn of Ragnarok looks to be precisely that type of game, pieced together with a commercially available engine, quickly pieced together to satisfy some fantasy.
In this case, anime Viking girls appear to be the word of the day, where a god's servant is the protagonist of this seemingly copy-paste RPG game. Valkyrie: Dawn of Ragnarok does not look like a game that will win awards anytime soon. It's likely the polar opposite. Our minds are open, and we're always happy to be surprised!
Ragnarok 'n' Roll
Anyone familiar with RPG Maker will understand that the platform is used to churn out games that follow the same standards. The developer has a story to tickle their fantasy; they throw together an elementary RPG with the same mechanics and visualize the experience with the same assets, chucking in avatars that don't match the game's theme.
That's the description of Valkyrie: Dawn of Ragnarok. The game doesn't veer outside the standard engine setup, where players will walk around, meet NPCS, exchange dialogue, or enter a turn-based battle scene. The engine could sometimes be manipulated to create a decent RPG experience, but that was not the developer's intention here.
The game is disjointed in every respect, from visuals to combat, showcasing the occasional lewd image of the protagonist, not doing much to serve up a compelling story. All you'll do is endlessly crawl through dungeons, facing off with randomized battles that don't require a strategic approach. Despite the narrative pushing you towards quelling a holy war of the Norse gods, it feels like you're only working to see your hero strip down to the skivvies.
It's hard even to imagine what kind of player would be intrigued by Valkyrie: Dawn of Ragnarok. The screens of the game don't do it justice, so why would anyone believe playing it would be any different? It's a copy-paste job from the RPG Maker engine standard, made worse by this hastily arranged scenery, story, and visuals.
The Gods Must Be Copied
By now, you've probably got the gist that Valkyrie: Dawn of Ragnarok is not a good game. It's laughably terrible. That notion alone maybe its only saving grace, where cult gamers that enjoy all things awful could get an absolute belter out of this poorly conceived title. Where games like Undertale managed to use the engine creatively and create a masterpiece, this title is the epitome of a disasterpiece.
It stuns me why people even put these things on the market and try and charge for them. Are they banking that another community shares a love of poor effort and lewd imagery? In this day and age, it wouldn't shock me. But my main point here, avoid Valkyrie: Dawn of Ragnarok like the plague.
