So here we are with the sequel to possibly one of the more odd simulation games of recent memory. Valthirian Arc: Hero School Story 2 aims to rectify the ambitions' shortcomings and deliver a more comprehensive hero school management experience. If you've not played the first game, perhaps this is the title that will inspire you to get immersed in the concept.
Valthirian Arc: Hero School Story 2 continues the premise of building and managing a school to train RPG heroes to save the world. This time around, you'll see better graphics, more seamless mechanics, and excess immersion as you rise your set of heroes from the ground up and defeat the forces of evil. But one question remains, is the sequel any better than the first?
Special Education
We can't deny that the concept behind the franchise is pretty good, albeit ambitious. Essentially, you are tasked with creating a school to train the heroes you'd usually play in fantasy RPG games. Depending on your facilities, amenities, and education level, you'll ultimately be responsible for their welfare, success, and legendary status. It seems like a lot of pressure!
But alas, you can immediately debunk the theory that Valthirian Arc: Hero School Story 2 is the same as the first. Some differences make gameplay much more fun, immersive, and less niggly than before. Let's not forget that the game is still in early access, so it does have its problems, but we seem to be on the right track to an engaging simulation game.
This time around, you feel more aligned with your characters and stories. As you nurture your students with combat experience, classes, courses, and management prowess, you can be proud as you watch them grow. The most fun in the game is pitting your roster of characters in turn-based combat and watching them succeed (or fail) according to your training.
Yes, the gameplay has more micromanagement aspects, like class management, statistics, and strategies. At the moment, it's where the game tends to fall a bit as they feel out of sync. However, efforts can make the whole experience feel more seamless with player feedback. After all, the right platform of cutesy graphics, colorful environments, and cleaner UIs can help drive this game to succeed.
Class Pet Peeves
So at the moment, Valthirian Arc: Hero School Story 2 needs work. It feels like too many mechanics are thrown into the pot now, and gameplay is rigid because they aren't communicating correctly. It's the trouble with ambitious games like these, where they want to offer players the complete management sim experience possible.
However, considering the success of games like Rimworld, we know it's entirely possible to make a good game with a lot going on. Thankfully, Valthirian Arc: Hero School Story 2 has infinite chances to be a better game remaining in early access. We look forward to seeing it improve as time goes on.
