Abermore

Abermore is one of the most interesting, unique, and original games that I have seen in quite some time. It has really piqued my interest and I thought I would talk to you guys about it today. This is a stealth game that is all about pulling off heists. I know this does not exactly sound original, but it is doing it in a way that I think is very original and something I do not think I have seen another game do before. Add to this a really cool setting and story and we have a game that I think could be a real hidden gem in 2022.

The Unhanged Man!

The setting for Abermore is really cool, it is an Edwardian style city and we play as a mysterious thief that is known as the unhanged man. He is a master thief and he is working up to a massive score and he has 18 days to prepare for it. The thing is, those 18 days leading up to the main heist are always different as things are randomly generated. There is an interesting and quirky cast of characters you will come across that greatly flesh out this fascinating world.

In 18 Days You See The Heist!

As you make you the 18 days that Abermore has for you, you will get to take on many quests for other people. These are a lot of fun to do and will differ each time you play the game. More often than not it is about stealing something for somebody. These are not just fun, but they can help you by gaining you access to new items, skills, and help during the final heist. I love the way that things are random as it will keep you on your toes. Even when you plan things out, you have to be ready to act on the fly as things can and will go wrong.

A Master Of The Mystic Arts

Our “hero” in Abermore, the hanged man may be light on his feet and a master thief. However, he is aided thanks to these various supernatural abilities that he can obtain and use during his various heists. These are done via tarot cards that you can get. These differ greatly in what they do, but from teleporting to making you move quietly, they can greatly help you sneak around and they are also a great deal of fun to use as well.

Neo-Edwardian

I have to say that I did not even know that “Neo-Edwardian” was a style or a thing, but the whole game does have a very cool look about it. I love the city of Abermore and think that as the game is played from the first-person it does a great job at making you actually feel like you are in this strange and interesting city. The game has a kind of comic book meets the classic Lucas Arts games thing going on with its style and that is a very cool thing!

As you can tell, Abermore is a game that I am very excited about. I think that even if this was a linear experience, I would still be excited about it. However, as the 18 day run is always going to throw something different your way, I can see myself getting very hooked on this game. If you enjoy planning and executing heists, you are going to have a ton of fun with this game. Be sure to take a closer look at this as I really do think this is going to be one of the sleeper hits of 2022.

Pros:

  • The setting of the game is very cool
  • I like how there are some supernatural elements to the game with your powers
  • Planning and pulling off a big heist is always a lot of fun
  • The game is randomly generated so you never know what it may throw your way

Cons:

  • With the random nature, could luck sometimes play a big factor in things?
  • I really hope that this game gets more attention as I feel it deserves it
