Hotel Transylvania: Scary-Tale Adventures

Hotel Transylvania is just one of the many kid-friendly movies that have seen moderate levels of success over the last few years and that can only mean one thing. Producers and big wigs are going to try and cash in with just about any product they can and the easiest avenue is usually a video game. Now, not all licenced titles are bad. In fact, some of them are diamonds in the rough. However, it goes without saying that it’s a little bit of a lucky dip. So with that in mind, the question is, how does Hotel Transylvania: Scary Tale Adventures stack up.

This game is a 3D platform title that will tell some new and exciting stories within the Hotel Transylvania universe. So this game will play like titles such as Balan Wonderworld, Maximo: Army of Zin, Rayman 2 Revolution, Medievil and Banjo Kazooie. However, can this name match the quality of the games mentioned above? We find out in our review of Hotel Transylvania: Scary Tale Adventures.

A Haunting Halloween Hit

Let’s begin with the visuals of this game. As this game will be a AA title, don’t go into this one expecting 4K, next gen visuals. However, if you want nothing more than decent animations and 3D assets which do the art style and characters of the franchise justice, then that’s exactly what you get here. Every character is instantly recognisable, the environments are great, the settings for each fairy tale are well designed and overall, this is a quintessentially striking Hotel Transylvania property.

Then as for the story of this game, it will rather unsurprisingly take well known fairy tales and offer them with a spooky twist. You will be able to play as your favourite characters from the movie, you’ll play through well known stories turned spooky like Little Red Riding Hood and The Emporers New Clothes. Plus, you have Bandai Namco at the reigns who published Little Nightmares, so you have a team that know how to do spooky at the helm.

Then as for gameplay, it’s still a little bit of a mystery. Even though this title is coming this Halloween, we still don’t know what the gameplay on offer will look like. However, we would wager that it will be a standard platformer with item collection gimmicks. We would compare it to the most recent Halloween platformer Pumpkin Jack. We can’t make any assurances but we reckon its a safe bet.

The Verdict

Overall, this game isn’t going to be a smash hit, nor it is going to offer anything that you haven’t seen a million times. However, what you can bet on, is that kids will eat this stuff up. The visuals will be fine, the gameplay will be a well-designed imitation of other platformers out there and provided the story is of the same quality as the movies, this game will offer more than enough to appease fans of the series.
