Expedition Zero

Now, this is my kind of game, Expedition Zero is a first-person survival horror game with a really cool premise and a lot of heart pumping jump scares to keep you on your toes. I actually spent a great deal of time with the free demo of the game and found it to be a whole lot of fun. Well fun, if you like being scared and always worried about what is lurking in the dark. I want to share a few bits of information about the game today to try and get you as hyped for its full release as I am.

What Were They Doing Here?

Expedition Zero takes place around an abandoned soviet research base in the wilderness. It is freezing cold, isolated, and locked away from the rest of the world. It is a pretty scary and strange place you have found yourself in. You need to find out what went down here and most importantly, survive as there is a creature roaming the woods and facility that wants you dead! This is awesome horror stuff here and I am legit very excited to get to the bottom of this mystery.

Fight Or Flight

One aspect of the game that I am very interested in is the “combat”. The vibe that I am getting from Expedition Zero is similar to a game like Outlast. You need to sneak around and you can basically run or hide from the creature. You can get weapons to defend yourself from the lesser things, but the big bad! You better make sure you are familiar with the lay of the land if this thing shows up that is for sure.

Surviving Is Hard

Due to the extreme temperatures and monsters, surviving in this place is very challenging. From the elements to the lack of resources to the things that want you dead. This is one very harsh environment that seems like it has everything going against you. Your saving grace is that you have this special suit that can be upgraded if you can find the right resources. You can also find safe points which you can run to if something is hunting you down. So, the game does give you a few ways to try and defend yourself and make things “easier” for you.

The Thing In The Asylum!

Remember how I likened Expedition Zero to Outlast just before? Well, that rings true for the overall style of the game as well. Well, you can clearly take a lot of inspiration from The Thing here as well. I am talking not just about the awesome 80s horror movie with Kurt Russel, but the very underrated game from Konami in the early 00s as well. It may not be the best looking game ever created, but it certainly has a creepy style and if you love horror, you will get a real kick out of it.

Pros:

• I love this cold and isolated research center
• The monster will keep you on your toes
• The game is awesome if you are a lover of horror movies and games
• It certainly gets your blood pumping

Cons:

• Not sure how much replay value there will be
• While I love the style, some of the graphics are a tad basic
