Agent Intercept originally started life out as a mobile game, but it has now made the jump to Steam and thanks to being able to play this with a proper controller. It is far more fun than it was on my old iPad. This is a short arcade style of game that does not overstay its welcome, but it is the kind of thing that is a lot of fun while it lasts.
Driving Saves The World
There is a fun plot at play here in the game. In the campaign of Agent Intercept, you are an agent and you and your epic driving (and boating) skills are all that stand in the way between an evil criminal organization called, Claw taking over the world. They have advanced tech and vehicles and only you have the skills and the know-how to put a stop to them.
It is pretty fun stuff and while not super deep by any means. I do feel that the bits of story the campaign throws your way gives you a good reason to be doing what you are doing. The whole collecting intel thing during a mission just adds to the whole agent/spy thing and I thought that was pretty cool.
What drew me to this game was that it reminded me of a classic arcade game I used to play called Chase H.Q. This is a vehicular combat game where you drive along, shooting down bad guys. The “gimmick” is that you have to complete missions. You do this by getting intel, picking up things as you drive. You have a checklist of things to do, but they basically all boil down to, driving, shooting, collecting things so the core gameplay could get repetitive. Thankfully, the campaign is quite short so you have beaten the game and had a blast before the repetition becomes an issue.
More Than Meets The Eye
Cool Transformers reference? Anyway, Agent Intercept does not just have you driving to stop the bad guys. Your futuristic and awesome car can transform into a boat. The first time this happens is very exciting. The gameplay is pretty much the same, but now you are on the water shooting missiles at other boats.
Keeping You Busy
I know I said that the campaign is just a couple of hours long, but Agent Intercept does have other things that can keep you busy. There is different score attack modes where you can try and prove your skills by getting on the leaderboards. There is high score chase, time trial, and target with each one offering a slight variation to the gameplay. You also have various side missions to go on too which give you a bit more story to enjoy. So, there is more gameplay on offer here than you initially think.
Bright And Stylish
I love the way that the game looks and sounds. It has a very bright and cool look to the game, it is almost cell-shaded, but not quite and it makes the game really pop. It looked good on my iPad, but on my monitor, it looks even better.
The game moves at a very quick pace too and as things are nicely defined and detailed, you never crash into something because you could not see or identify it. It also has a pretty kickass score that fits the whole secret agent vibe of the story very well too.
I had a lot of fun with Agent Intercept on Steam. The mobile version of the game is a good time, but I think the fact that this version is designed with a controller in mind does make it better and more enjoyable to play in my opinion. It may not last a long time, but it is one hell of a thrill ride while it does.
- I love the whole style of the game
- I liked how the car could turn into a boat
- Getting on the leaderboards is very addictive
- It actually has more content than you would think
- Most of the objectives are very similar
- It did stutter a few times
