Truck Driver is a game that has been on other systems for a while now, but it is finally making its way to STEAM. I am a real sucker for truck driving games and I have spent tons of time with the main big two games that this genre has to offer. What really drew me to this game is that I liked the idea that it was not a 100 percent simulation style of game like these tend to be.
To Honor My Father
The two other trucking games that I was talking about are American Truck Simulator and Euro Truck Simulator and I love those games! What makes Truck Driver a bit different is that it is more story-driven. You are not just a nameless truck driver here there is a point and reason to be doing what you are doing and I think that is kind of cool. You have inherited a truck from your late father and you decide that the best way to honor your father is to try and become the best damn truck driver around. Not only this, but you will be communicating with the other people in this town and getting to know them a bit better and I thought this made the hauls you were doing more “personal” if that makes sense.
Hauling Around Town!
The game world that is on offer here is a decent size, but it is not quite the level of a Euro Truck Simulator or American Truck Simulator, but this is still a very decent-sized open world that Truck Driver has given you to play in. I think that this fictional place has a nice amount of diversity to it and this means that there is plenty of ways for you to be able to show off your truck driving skills.
Right In The Middle
In terms of the gameplay, what we have here is kind of hard to talk about. You can get plenty of upgrades for your truck that will make it handle better, make hauling heavier loads easier and so on and this is great. The thing is, I would have to say that the gameplay is not quite as sim-based as what is on offer in the Truck Simulator games, but it is also not arcade-like it is in the 18-Wheeler game from Sega.
This is a game that does have a bit of a learning curve and the more you get into it, the more you will have fun. I found the whole driving in the game a tad hard to get into, but that is because I was trying to play it like the other truck games I mentioned. When I started taking it as it is, I started to get better and appreciate it more. You have many different hauls to deliver such as buildings, boats, supplies, and more.
Basic, But Good
The presentation of Truck Driver is decent enough. It is not as detailed as the simulator games, but I still think that they have done a decent enough job of making this place seem like it is real. I love the way that your truck looks and seeing your dashboard and the way that the rain pounds on the windshield is a very cool effect.
I think that what is on offer here with Truck Driver is pretty solid. The thing that this game has a tough time with is standing on its own and differentiating itself from the Truck Simulator games. I have to say it is not as good or as deep as those games are, but at the same time, I think this is a fun truck driving game and one that is well worth taking a look at if you enjoy truck driving games.
- The town here is very diverse
- I liked the premise of inheriting a truck
- Talking to the town’s folk is kind of fun
- Once you get the hang of the driving; this can be a relaxing game to play
- It may not be as deep a truck driving experience as you would have liked
- It is a bit rough around the edges
