The wild and often inappropriate squirrel, Conker, returns for another adventure full of debauchery in Conker's Big Reunion! Taking place 10 years after his previous outing, this modern title revives the classic Conker gameplay style, but with better graphics and gameplay. If you want to help Conker complete his quest, you'll need to avoid obstacles, take down killer teddy bears, and even pay off a huge bar tab. Like previous games in the series, Conker's Big Reunion is a fun time for fans. It's just disappointing that the episodic game was ultimately canceled, leaving it unfinished.

Main Game Features

  • Fun and basic platforming gameplay
  • Adult-focused comedy and story
  • Hilarious characters and dialogue

Story

The story of Conker's Big Reunion jumps forward a full decade after the events of Conker's Bad Fur Day. When Conker gets excited about an upcoming reunion, he celebrates a bit too much, leaving him with a hangover one morning. With help from his scarecrow pal, Conker travels to his local bar and discovers that he has to pay off his tab of $300 if he wants to join in the festivities. Like before, Conker must embark on a crazy adventure to scrounge up cash, leading him to encounters with a wacky cast of characters, dangerous challenges, and some true life-or-death battles.

If you had fun with Conker games in the past, there's a lot of fan-service in Conker's Big Reunion that you'll enjoy. Like before, you get guidance from the foul-mouthed scarecrow Birdy and must battle against the evil, zombie-like Tediz. References to previous events and other popular games give the story some charm, but some jokes don't always hit. The biggest problem with the story of Conker's Big Reunion is that it remains unfinished, as the project was unfortunately canceled. However, there's still enough fun in the first episode to warrant a look!

Gameplay

For all intents and purpose, the gameplay in Conker's Big Reunion is very similar to the previous game, Conker: Live and Reloaded. Players control Conker, a cute squirrel who loves to make risque jokes and drink booze. After you've shrugged off the morning hangover, players can guide Conker around 3D platforming levels by using his jump and hover abilities. There isn't a huge penalty if you miss a jump or mess up, though, so making mistakes doesn't feel too bad. Exploring and jumping aren't the only parts of Conker's adventure, as he'll also have to battle against various enemies. Opponents can be quickly taken out with a swing of Conker's frying pan, or with stealth takedowns in specific sections.

If you were looking for any crazy new gameplay mechanics, you just won't find them in Conker's Big Reunion. No new features have been added to this new game, so the game makers clearly wanted the experience to feel retro and nostalgic. However, the existing features have been updated to feel faster and more responsive, which is a step up from the older games. The first episode should only take you around an hour to finish and the story ends on a cliffhanger, so it's important to know this before you expect a full length adventure.

Conclusion

For fans of the character and franchise, Conker's Big Reunion is a fun return to form, even if it feels like a copy of the original Nintendo 64 game. The graphics are definitely nicer and the game feels better to play, but adult humor and charm of the game still persists.

5

However, the adult content has been notably toned down for this release, with much less cursing and innuendo. At the end of the day, Conker's Big Reunion is a nugget of entertainment for diehard fans, but any new player will likely be disappointed with the short play time and unfinished nature of the game.

Pros

  • It's good to see Conker back in action
  • Updated game mechanics feel good
  • Cool graphics and a lively atmosphere

Cons

  • Not as funny as previous games
  • Gameplay is limited and feels a lot like a tutorial
  • Only one episode is available
  • Unfinished story makes it hard to get invested

Game Reviews

Welcome back to the irreverent world of Conker the Squirrel in the mature and episodic adventure Conker's Big Reunion, brought to life with the powerful Project Spark engine. This long-anticipated return of everyone's favorite acerbic rodent unfolds within the unique framework of the Project Spark platform, offering players a fresh and immersive way to experience Conker's misadventures.

The promise of diving into the mayhem, humor, and adult-themed escapades makes Conker's latest outing a distinctive and engaging experience within the gaming realm. However, much of the project the title derives from hasn't made its mark on players worldwide. Let's discover how this charming fellow holds up in this embedded forest world.

Going Nuts Again

Conker's Big Reunion marks the triumphant return of the cheeky squirrel we all know and love, delivering a mature, episodic adventure that seamlessly blends nostalgia with modern gameplay. Created with the Project Spark engine, the game reintroduces Conker to a new generation of players while retaining the irreverent charm that made the character iconic.

Let's start with the positives. The episodic format adds a fresh twist, immersing players in bite-sized misadventures. The Project Spark platform is a fitting stage, providing a unique and engaging backdrop for Conker's antics. The game excels in its humor, delivering a script that is as witty as it is raunchy. Conker's Big Reunion pulls no punches in its irreverent take on the world, and fans of the original will appreciate the adult-themed escapades that have become synonymous with the franchise.

However, Conker's Big Reunion has flaws; the clunky controls, repetitive mechanics, and short playtime make it an average addition to the Conker series. Fans of the mischievous squirrel will find plenty to get annoyed with in this episodic adventure, as it doesn't capture the essence of what made Conker a beloved character in the first place.

Failed to Conker

Conker's Big Reunion comes off as somewhat unpolished, falls short in length, and regrettably doesn't capture the charm that made other franchise titles a classic. However, amidst these drawbacks, it's commendable that the team at Project Spark managed to craft a storyline that fits snugly into the Conker universe. It's got that Duke Nukem Forever vibe, where the game was hyped yet fell remarkably short of expectations.

There's an undeniable sense that it leans more toward the vibe of a fan-made mod rather than a seamless continuation of the beloved franchise. Despite its imperfections, the narrative attempts to pay homage to Conker's legacy, offering a story that, while not flawless, manages to carve a niche within the quirky Conker universe. Fans may have more positive things to say about the title as episodes continue. Still, for now, it isn't easy to justify a venture into Conker's Big Reunion.

Round-Up - Pros & Cons

Pros:

  • The nostalgia factor is there for Conker fans
  • There's still a great sense of humor
  • An upgraded way to play a fan-favorite

Cons:

  • The low frame rate makes the game clunky
  • Repetitive gameplay
  • Very short playtime

Conkers Big Reunion is a three-dimensional third-person platformer about the adventures of a sociable squirrel and his friends. Squirrel Conker was finally able to save up enough money to celebrate meeting his friends, after a 10-year separation. After preventing others from trying to burn down the place where he meets his friends, Conker discovers a strange thing. A note on the door reads that the bar is closed and that Conker won't be seen for near eternity. So what happened? Investigate along with Fighting Squirrel and his chainsaw.

  • Fight an army of enemies using the most brutal weapons
  • Save your friends from deception by traveling to different locations
