It’s fair to say that all the horror-related media was better in the 90s. We had iconic franchises in movies and video games, and it was a genre that had its best days back then. That’s why people still remember these franchises and create new things using them as inspiration. It can either be zombies, aliens, or both; why not? The thing is Daymare: 1994 Sandcastle draws a lot of inspiration from the ’90s, and it’s such a great game thanks to that.

Daymare: 1994 Sandcastle is a horror and action game where you’ll be killing a lot of never-before-seen beasts, solving all sorts of classic-like puzzles, and exploring a laboratory complex with the mission of seeing what happened there in the first place. Let’s take a look at it.

Classic Horror Show

The game takes place in the USA, exactly, in the biggest and most advanced laboratory research of the military. As it seems something happened there, and now, a lot of deformed beasts are patrolling the place, and they are hungry.

You’ll be controlling Dalila Reyes, a reputed member and spy of the H.A.D.E.S project, and your task will be exploring the place to see what happened and cover the happenings so the public eye doesn’t see a thing.

In this game, you’ll be exploring the complete laboratory complex, solving evocative puzzles that can make you remember older titles like Resident Evil while killing beasts with a very powerful weapon, exactly like in Doom. There’s a lot of exploration and psycho-terror, such as in Silent Hill!

The gameplay of Daymare: 1994 Sandcastle is excellent. The controls are on point, There’s a lot of variety when it comes to weapons, and that’s cool, but you’ll always be managing your ammo, which can be problematic over time. There are also a lot of beasts to kill, dismember, and evaporate, which is wonderful. Who doesn’t like to dismember enemies in a game?

But the enemies aren’t there only to be dismembered; they have intelligence and can attack you even in the less-expected moment! Also, don’t expect to be safe and sound after killing an enemy, as a big part of the difficulty of the game is seeing how the monsters revive and get tougher and stronger to the point where they are able to kill you with one hit.

This game also adds a lot of excellent features to give Daymare: 1994 Sandcastle a lot of variety aside from just being a spooky Beat Them Up. You’ll now have the Scanner, which lets you discover hidden items and solve puzzles to reach new zones on the map. The game also has collectibles, so you’ll be here for a long while, using the scanner to find all the secrets this game hides.

Daymare: 1994 Sandcastle is a must-have if you enjoy terror games. It’s a revamp of all of those concepts that made horror something cool to live in back in the ‘90s and can certainly make people fall in love with the genre again. In terms of graphics, the game is heavily realistic, and you’ll not be disappointed of it.
