You've been down in the mines of Descent and Descent II for long enough--now it's time to go outside. Like its forefathers, the third installment of Tantrum/lnterplay's popular space shooter is all about action: blowing up obstacles above and below ground, blowing up terrifyingly smart flying robots, blowing up other humans in multiplayer mode...you get the idea. 3D acceleration will be required to play Descent 3, but the payoff is sweet textures and lighting effects. The familiar straightforward controls won't be seriously altered, but the gameplay is being enhanced to make it more than just a Doom-style key collection.
The technological trick behind D3 is its dual-engine technology. The indoor environments needed one set of tools, while the outdoor environments required something totally different The cool part is you won't be able to tell you're switching between engines as you fly through the portal from the mines to the sky. If you so desire, you can grab the demo online now and check it out.
