The long-awaited sequel to the top-down intelligence-based tactical game Door Kickers is now out in Early Access. Door Kickers 2: Task Force North returns with the familiar true-to-life gameplay where information is king. As you’d expect, the game will also come with a slew of improvements to enhance the already adrenaline-fueled tactical action of the original game.
Get your intelligence in order and let’s have a look at everything you need to know about Door Kickers 2.
What made Door Kickers particularly unique compared to other tactical games was its top-down perspective. Not only does it give you great control over your units, but also allows you to visualize your pathways more clearly.
That isn’t to say that you’ll have the full view of where enemies are. Without proper intelligence, blindspots and rooms are greyed out. Unless you’ve been given the exact location of enemy terrorists and hostages, then you won’t know what’s hiding behind each door. This same element returns in Door Kickers 2 with several quality of life upgrades to the movement and line-of-sight.
True to Violence
The story of Door Kickers 2 takes place in the fictional Middle Eastern country called Nowheraki. What’s immediately indicative of the game’s true-to-life tactical gameplay is the setting being that of a country turmoiled by divisiveness and violence. Let’s just say it’s not a game for the faint of heart. What Door Kickers 2 does excellently is take inspirations from real-life events and capture them through its fictional counter-terrorism scenarios and missions.
Choose Your Units
One of the key new features Door Kickers 2 is bringing to an already pretty good table is unit selection. The game will feature several well-known units of armed forces from which you’ll be able to choose which you take on each mission.
The game in its Early Access state currently has the option to play as the United States Army Rangers. The developers have stated there are more in pipeline so stay tuned for announcements.
The tactical game genre is currently filled with a lot of titles that follow a very typical formula. Like its predecessor, though, Door Kickers 2 goes against the grain by utilizing a top-down perspective and providing tactical gameplay that is driven by the amount of information you’re given. If you love tactical games, don’t skip this one.
- Top-down gameplay goes against the norm of the genre and offers a fresh take
- Gameplay is influenced by the amount of information available before the mission starts
- Setting and scenarios are based on true-to-life conflicts and situations
- The top-down perspective may not be for everyone
- It’s still in Early Access with no indication of when there’ll be a full release
