Fears to Fathom - Carson House

Games that have a greater focus on delivering narrative than creating any kind of deep gameplay have been derogatorily dubbed “walking simulators”. In these games, you typically explore an area and discover clues that will uncover more and more about the story the game is trying to tell you. This format has been used to deliver all kinds of stories, but few have delivered a horror story as successfully at Fears to Fathom - Carson House.

Developed and published by Rayll, Fears to Fathom - Carson House is the third installment in the Fears to Fathom series. Each episode covers a short story that will chill you to the bone and leave you excited for the next one. Think of it as a modern day Telltale game by way of Gone Home. If that sounds good to you, here is everything you need to know about Fears to Fathom - Carson House.

A Spine-Tingling Tale

In Fears to Fathom - Carson House, you play as a senior in high school named Noah Baker. As a high schooler, Noah is always on the hunt for some extra cash. So, imagine his surprise when he is offered an easy gig for some quick cash: house-sitting for a weekend.

The house in question belongs to a fairly well-known local media personality, and its only for a few days! It sounds like a sweet deal, and everything goes pretty smoothly. That is, until Noah begins to feel a presence in the house, and strange happenings begin to occur.

Like all episodes of Fears to Fathom, Carson House is told from Noah’s perspective, who survived the event because he made the right choices. Will you make the right choices?

Engaging Gameplay

Most walking simulators of this style will dump you into a primary location, and that’s it. All you agave in terms of gameplay is exploring and interacting with the objects in the environment. Fears to Fathom - Carson House also has this, but it goes out of its way to offer varied gameplay that will keep players engaged.

This varies between the standard walking sim gameplay, conversation mechanics, and even a few driving sections. You won’t be participating in any cover shooting or hand-to-hand combat at all in this game, it’s still a walking sim, but there is quite a variety of things to do, which is nice!

Creepy Visuals

The excellent story and varied gameplay would be enough to make Fears to Fathom - Carson House an awesome experience, but it also packs in very impressive photorealistic visuals that set the tone and fully immerse players within its world. The atmosphere is expertly crafted to the point that even if nothing is happening, the hairs on the back of your neck will still stand on edge.

The added layer of visual interest provided by the fuzzy, VHS-style filter makes things just a little more unsettling, even as you’re just cycling through different camera feeds. One thing is for sure, Fears ti Fathon - Carson House will get under your skin.
