Fields of Mistria

Fields of Mistria is a charming farming and life simulator game that borrows many of the things that we know and love from other similar game but somehow makes it all its own. I got well and truly hooked on this game and would have to say that it is one of the best examples of what this genre has to offer. On the surface, it looks like it is not doing anything new, but this is the type of game that once you start playing it, it is honestly hard to stop. I got hooked on this thing and I am sure you will too.

Getting Back On Your Feet

The story of Fields of Mistria is kind of similar to the likes of Stardew Valley. We play as a character who has just moved to the town of Mistria. The town is trying to get back onto its feet after a bad earthquake caused a lot of damage. The people here though have a good spirit about them and we set about trying to make our own life here, getting to know the people better, and of course, doing what we can to help Mistria get back to the way it was before the earthquake and actually be even better!

A Ph.D. in Personality

A huge part of what makes Fields of Mistria so addictive is the people that you get to chat to. This game features all the typical kinds of characters you expect here from the geeky girl next door, the cute and mysterious magical girl, the handsome and suave merchant, and more. There are so many interesting characters and I found myself getting quite attached to more than a few of them. The writing here is fantastic and there were many moments where I would get really hooked on a certain quest because it was helping a character that I cared a lot about.

Making Magic!

While there is farming, building, crop gathering, and social aspects to the gameplay and Fields of Mistria does all of this very, very well. Actually, one of my favorite things about the game is the way the town does its own thing without you so you actually feel like you are in a real town. The farming and social sim stuff here works great, but there is also magic in this game. You are working towards gathering magic essence by doing various tasks. This helps the local dragon, Caldarus get stronger which in turn gives you access to the skill tree! You will eventually get the ability to use mana which allows you to cast spells that do things like help your crops grow. The magical aspect of the game is fantastic and something that makes it stand out from the likes of Stardew Valley and Story of Seasons.

A Story For All Seasons

When it comes to the presentation of Fields of Mistria this is one very good looking game. It takes that pixel art approach that you get with games like Stardew Valley, Story of Seasons, and the classic Harvest Moon game, but it puts its own spin on it. The characters when they talk are brought to life with these gorgeous portraits that along with the great writing show their personalities. The game has a very interesting color palette that is nice and easy on the eyes and helps with the “cozy game” feeling that the developers were going for. It has the look of a 90s computer game and that is something I like. The color palette also helps when you are playing this for hours on end as it never becomes too much for your eyes. The whole presentation of the game is tied together with a wonderful and whimsical soundtrack that fits the game perfectly.

Pros:

• The town of Mistria could not be any more charming
• There are so many colorful and interesting characters
• I love the way the game makes use of magic
• This is the ultimate chill out game that will hook you right from the start

Cons:

• The start of the game is perhaps a tad too similar to Stardew Valley in some regards
• I legit cannot think of another con!

Fields of Mistria is a pixel RPG game with a dream farm simulator. Create your own farm in the small town of Mistria. Make friends with locals, explore the territory of the island and qualitatively improve your life on the farm. Make animals, grow the most unusual garden and learn magic to explore the world. Look for friends among the inhabitants of the town and maybe one of them will become your partner.
