Godstrike is probably the most interesting and unique twin stick shooter that I have played., well in ever! It is such a clever idea for a game and one that is sure to keep you playing and making you say “just one more go” as you try and beat your buddies high score or unlock that next awesome ability that may just be what you need to take on the next boss.
The Last Of God’s Masks
I will admit that I do not actually “get” the story, but to be fair I think that may be more something to do with my lack of understanding of the subject matter. Anyway, Godstrike is the story of Talaal, the last of God’ seven masks and time for Talaal is running out! You see, her brothers and sisters want to take her power for themselves and she needs your help to stop them.
Boss Rush Mayhem
When I said that Godstrike was a twin stick shooter I would wager that games such as Smash TV entered your mind. Well, while this is a twin stick shooter it is far more unique than that genre suggests. It also has a bullet hell element to it, but the most interesting thing is who you are battling. It is more of a boss rush than facing off against a bunch of enemies in an arena or level.
Time Is The Enemy
Your time and health are connected and are the same. I thought this was such a cool idea, you have a time limit that you need to defeat the boss in and this keeps you on your toes. You can of course extend this, but it does make things more exciting and, on some occasions, more frustrating as well as it can on rare occasions feel like the clock is ticking away and there is nothing you can do to damage the boss so you are losing and it does not feel like your fault. Of course, if you get better at the game this may not be an issue.
Get Ready For Battle
Many twin stick shooters will let you pick up different weapons, but Godstrike takes things to a different level. You can unlock a ton of abilities and you can at the start of each round, decide what you want your loadout to be. From giving you a better chance at dishing out more damage, slower energy depletion, and shooting four shots at once. Sometimes, you can lose on a level, and then with the knowledge, you then possess, know what kind of loadout will give you the best chance of success.
Simple And Cool!
This game looks fantastic. It is so bright, colorful and it moves at a blistering pace too. It can sometimes seem like there is too much going on and at first, you may die a lot as you take damage from things you did not notice. The more you play, the more laser focusses your vision gets which makes getting out of the way easier. It has a very unique kind of style to it all and while it is not pushing any kind of hardware limits, I do really like the look of this game.
I will always give a twin stick shooter a chance and I have to say that I feel calling Godstrike just another twin stick shooter is doing the game a huge disservice. The way it mixes in elements of boss rush modes, bullet hell shooters, and even a bit of rouge-like too is really cool. It is a very addictive kind of game and if you have buddies who play this too, you guys will be constantly competing to see who is the best player.
