Realistic animations and a whole slew of big-time tennis pros aren't enough to compensate for the real poor control that this game offers. It should be noted that you can play this game with a four-way adapter.

Restring your racket, it's time to take to the court with EA Sports' newest addition to its sports line. Although addictingly fun to play, IMG International Tennis Tour falls short of greatness.
ProTip: Take advantage of the opportunity to practice with Vic Braden. He'll help you develop your game and avoid making a fool of yourself on the court.
IMG is essentially EA Sports' answer to Sega Sports' Wimbledon Tennis, but IMG has fewer players, a difficult control system, and fewer options, which pushes it slightly behind its competitor.
IMG does showcase good realism on its courts. It offers 32 male pros (legends like Laver and Borg) that compete in Exhibition, Tournament, or Single-Elimination Tournaments. Abilities like serve strength genuinely reflect the abilities of the real-life players. The ball reacts accurately to the four play surfaces (hard court, clay, grass, and carpet). And the four-player option makes for fun, fast, and frantic volleys.
For a sure point, lob the ball to the left side of your computer opponent's back-court line (if he's a right-handed player). He usually puts it into the net or misses completely.
The game's controls are troublesome, however. Players often step farther than you intend and catch nothing but air with their racquets. Fortunately, the game offers a practice option to help develop your abilities, but you'll need to put in a lot of time before you can drill accurate backhands.
Time-tested tennis strategies work; lead your opponent to one side of the court, then slice the ball hard to the other side.
The graphics aren't thrilling -- the sprites are big but undetailed, and they all look identical. Fortunately, the sounds of the ball connecting with the net, the court, and the racket are topnotch.
IMG International Tennis Tour has too many control problems to be the best Genesis tennis game. Still, it offers challenging game play and enough realistic details to make it worth trying for a few sets.
