I am a real sucker for a rogue like deck builder and that is why KindFolx has been one of my most anticipated games of 2023 since I heard about it. Not only does this have some awesome looking random combat and a whole lot of challenge to it. I have fallen in love with the whole whimsical style that this game has and it in many ways feels like it could be a cartoon. Perhaps if the game does well enough this could end up being a multimedia franchise, I have to say, I would be very happy if this were the case.

Never Trust A Monster

The plot of KindFolx takes place in a city that shares its name with the title of the game. This place was a special city that was built by a kind human who wanted humans and monsters to live in peace together. For years they did, but when this kind human passed, a monster called, Darlocke took charge and he started to oppress humans due to his intense hatred and resentment of them. Only a plucky team of three adventurers can stand up and try to defeat him and bring peace back to the city.

Come On Grab Your Friends

Remember how I said that I felt like KindFolx could be a cartoon? Well, I get major Adventure Time vibes from the whole style of this game. It has that same kind of cheeky and wise cracking style about it and that is something I get such a kick out of. I cannot say this for sure, but I would be very shocked if the developer at the very least was not inspired by the awesome Adventure Time show that was very popular on Cartoon Network for many years.

So Bright And Clear!

A huge part of the reason that KindFolx is giving me those Adventure Time vibes is the game's visuals. Actually, I would say that Castle crashers is also a good comparison to make here. The game has this cell shaded style about it which I am a massive fan of and it all looks bright, and smooth and it just has a ton of personality about it. The cut scenes are done with this amazing cartoon style artwork and the whole game just has this style that makes it immensely appealing. It also has a very fitting soundtrack that I also think has some Castle Crashers vibes about it.

It Is Dangerous To Go Alone, Take My Deck

You have three adventures that you can play as in KindFolx and each one has their own play style. This is a deck building style of game and it is all about how you manage your deck in the heat of battle. One of the things I love about this game is that the battles happen in real time so you have to be pretty quick with your thinking here. At the same time, I do not see anything here that I feel is going to be a huge barrier of entry and make it a game that is hard to get into. Each time you play the game, you never know what to expect as each run is completely random!

I truly could not be any more excited for KindFolx to be complete. Even in the early state (as I write this) that I have seen the game, it looks incredible and it is one of the most exciting deck building style games to be released in 2023. I think that the whole funny and whimsical kind of Cartoon Network style of the show also makes it something that could appeal to those that normally do not give this kind of game a try.
