A hardcore multiplayer RPG experience, Life is Feudal: Your Own pits the player against an unforgiving world where only the strongest might have a chance at survival. Build, craft, and terraform your way into survival in this medieval sandbox that is unlike anything you’ve ever played before.
Despite the astounding amount of bugs and apparently faulty online code, this version of Life is Feudal still offers the same punishing gameplay experience that fans of the MMORPG version are used to. Just be ready to spend absurd amounts of time grinding for resources as part of the game’s repetitive gameplay loop.
Build Your Own Fantasy
One of the great things about Life is Feudal: Your Own is that it lets you customize your game world entirely to your liking. What’s more, building and customization are the heart of the game, as you’ll spend most of your playtime gathering resources and cleaning up new areas to expand your settlement.
As a medieval-themed RPG, most of the buildings in the game are somewhat archaic, which is an area where the game is unlike anything we’ve ever seen before. Most games with a similar formula, like ARK: Survival Evolved, eventually stir away from its core concept and jump into a futuristic theme.
Life is Feudal is also popular for its unforgiving combat. The truth is that open combat should be avoided at all costs, as the clunky controls and janky animations might be part of the reason why the game feels so cumbersome during combat. This could’ve been the perfect combination between Minecraft and Dark Souls, but the result, again, feels more like ARK.
That said, the physics-based combat has its moments, especially when both players know what they’re doing. There’s just something viscerally satisfying about connecting and impact in this game that you’ll never get in almost any other game. Add to this the ungodly amounts of glitches and wonky terrain collision and you get yourself what Life is Feudal is about. However, if you’re not bothered by repetitive gathering and grinding for hours, then you won’t be all too upset by this game’s lack of variety in its gameplay.
Despite its many glitches and stiff animations, Life is Feudal still looks great for what it is. While most survival games like this one seem content to limit their visuals to the bare basics, Life is Feudal takes its visual fidelity very seriously.
Every environmental detail looks fantastic, not to mention the impressive weather and overall atmosphere. Textures look particularly great, and most elements of the terrain are nicely detailed. There’s also the robust weather and season mechanics that make the world of Life is Feudal feel dynamic and in constant flux. Character models are somewhat of a mixed bag. While their faces and skin textures could have been much better, the clothing looks fantastic. Things like clothes’ bump maps and their overall textures make the game feel like a truly next-gen visual experience, and the same could be said for the buildings.
Life is Feudal: Your Own can feel too repetitive for its own good, but it still delivers a unique gaming experience that’s extremely tough to match.
